I can play CD's just fine on my dv6000t, but the cd burner doesn't seem to work at all. When I try to burn a CD in WMP, it just says "CD or DVD burner not detected".

Anyone know what could be causing this problem?

First look in your device manager and see if there is an red x when you expand(+) the cd/dvd drives section of the device manager

I second Kdawg's advice, you can also try reinstalling with the newest driver.

There are occasionally conflicts between Windows Media Player and optical drives, usually updating to the latest firmware sorts them out.

Is the burner working with any other burning software? eg. Nero

Nope, device manager seems to think that everything is fine

No, it doesen't work with any other software either. All the programs that I've tried seem to think that it's just a generic CD/DVD ROM drive, rather than a burner.

I looked at HP's website, and there isn't a driver available for the optical drive...what should I do?

I would do as was suggested above, uninstall it from device manager and let Windows redetect it. Maybe that will fix the problem (unless the drive is defective). It may even be running in the wrong mode, which could produce errors.
