Quickplay itself is not available for download. You will need the oem recovery discs for this, so I would give HP a call.......

If there is a link to download from, then yes. However, it still won't solve your problem about Recovery Manager. You would still need the recovery discs either way, as both Quickplay & Recovery Manager are included on them.

I dont think recovery disks are yet offered on the CTO page which I found kind of odd but in their support section there is a link to request one. I imagine you should have created the recovery disks as soon as you booted into vista the first time and then formatted the drive. Anyone know how many cds/dvds are needed to create the recovery? And does one need to do this if they are not going to remove the recovery software? How much space does it take up?

Just the Santa Rosa units appear to have no recovery disc option on the CTO page, as the old ones still do. I imagine they are making them up now, and will be offered once they have sufficient supply.

I would definitely use dvds to make the discs. I think it takes an absurd amount of cds to do the backup. I always get the oem discs instead so I don't have to bother wasting my own.

My recovery partition takes up around 6+ gigs for XP.

If you have the option to buy them, then you should really as some people notice they run into problems burning their own and some even end up not being able to use them cuz they werent burned correctly. Rather than having to go through this problem, I would spend $20 after spending about 10 times that for a laptop.
