    Hi,

Recently I cleaned my over-1-year old DV6563 laptop since the heat sink was filled with dust inside. Anyways, I got everything back together, but unfortunally the inverter lamp on my monitor went dead (I got a replacement off Ebay and the monitor works again).

However I have a slight issue. Every time I close down the laptop lid, the screen stays on (it doesn't turn off the screen). I even set windows to go into stand-by when the lid is closed and it does not turn off the screen or go into stand-by (unless I press Fn+Sleep).

I even installed Windows XP to see if it was a Vista issue...however the problem still exists. I do have the lastest Nvidia drivers too.

Anyone know what I might of done wrong or how to fix this?

Sorry for your inverter lamp. That stuff must have cost a lot  For your problem; assuming you have made the physical connections right between the screen and its lid mechanism correctly, I suggest you to check ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) settings under Windows and items that I indicated in the picture below under Device Manager. Hope it helps.

Theres a display switch near the back, im guessing when you reinstalled the screen it wasnt done properly.

Take out the screen and you will see a switch.

There is a magnet inside of the screen on the upper left side of the bezel. Around the mid left side of the laptop next to the keyboard is the sensor. try putting a magnet next to this area move it around untill the screen goes off. I had this same problem with a dv6000 i bought on ebay the little magnet had been lost from inside the bezel and it no longer went to sleep.

Is there a way to clean out the dust without disassembling the laptop?

Stick the little tube on the can of compressed air in the fan port on the laptop it will remove some of the dust.

Removing the keyboard wont help. There is no holes where the dust would be blown out of it the keyboard was removed vs not removed.

If you watch the procedure to remove top cover, you will see the fan is at the top left corner of the keyboard.
That's reason I suggest to remove the keyboard to blow out dust out of the heatsink throught the openning at that location.
Or simpler, just remove the combo drive so dust has a way out, instead of staying inside the laptop.

Are there any pictures describing this? I see the magnet on the monitor panel on the left side.

Where is this switch? I can't find it anywhere around the LCD panel.

Probably doesnt use a switch then, but a magnet as tippey said. The dv2500's use a small switch near a back.

Double check the service manual and video guides.
