Dipping my toes in the water...HP Tech support said 'uninstall the drivers one by one', but unfortunately, tis hard to figure out which drivers I should be messing with. Below, what I sent to HP.
(As a side issue, any recommendations for online storage for something around 5-6GB of stuff, zip file size of up to 4 GB? Bit too big for me 2 GB thumb drive.)
----
Okay.
I am in a uniquely painful position.
I got this machine 12/15/07 when the box from HP got to me.
I busily started installing Norton 360, moving data from an old and dying desktop now at some recycling place, etc.
Among this, I updated my drivers.
This is w/ Vista HomePremium, BTW.
So...la dee da dee da. 4 days pass. Now, randomly, the taskbar and related things go graphically weird. They disappear and leave only the shadows, buttons run into each other, the popout shutdown menu goes byebye. Same when I alt-tab or similar. If I log off and log on, it fixes itself, but that is annoying as hell.
Now, I'd like to *Just reinstall my original drivers*. I have a lot of data, too much to backup on the recovery partition, that I'd like to keep, including important and irreplacable documents. I -really- do not want to do a full system restore, but restore points from Day 1 are no longer available.
So...how do I acquire the original drivers for this thing?

Not even sure if its the drivers causing it, sadly.

I know you said you have too much data to back up, but maybe you could burn them on DVD's and do a fresh install of Vista. Not the recovery disk install, but a fresh clean install of Vista, then install the drivers from their website. The link for the drivers for your dv6500t is below. Just make sure you install the right ones. If your's is the Intel X3100, then install the Intel one, if its the Nvidia, then install that specific one. Goodluck. Hope you solve your graphics problem.

Unfortunately, HP didn't include actual Vista discs with the system - just the system recovery disk and stuff.
