Rule of computer shopping (in my opinion):
    If you can wait, wait!!.

There will always a better deal on the horizon.

I don't think there is a heat issue with my dv6500t. You hear more issues with the smaller 2500 model.

Wait for the 30$ coupon, you will save a lot more money. Also, it won't make a difference if you call the HP rep, they can't get you better deals than the coupons, I know from personal experience. The best deal you are going to get is the 30% coupon they offer, and they've offered it twice in the last month and a half. So just wait, because it won't be too long before they run it again, because if you buy now and the coupon comes out tomorrow you have to physically return the notebook then reorder if you want the extra savings.

am afraid that hp makes the new discount on other product!
also i have customised dell vostro1500 for the same configuration as dv6500t and i found vostro1500 less 30$ than dv6500t without any discount!
but everytime i enter dell section here in the forum i could hear ppl screaming of grainy screen or anything relted to dell!

People around here will post it for you Jamison. To the OP Icehell, you could always try your luck and use the 20% coupon and if they release a 30% coupon within 30 days HP will refund the difference (I did this and it took 10 days for the refund to be processed but I did get the credit back on my credit card).

    Cheers!

The bottom line is Dell has absolutely no quality control or boundary samples as what is exceptable for LCD's. What you get can vary wildly as to LCD quality with Dell. Also, with the vostro 1500 you have a fairly good chance of having some major static noise in the headphone jack. HP uses altec lansing speakers on the top of the keyboard while dells vostro puts them under the laptop.. and those speakers pail in comparison to HP's. Poor speakers, bad shielding for headphone jacks, bad screens, and heavier then most 15" notebooks on the market, I don't see much in dells offerings.. except for the more powerful 86 gt card. If it were not for the GPU offerings, the new Dell lines would have nothing over the HP in my opinion.

No, the bottom line is that Dell had to rush. A huge influx of new orders after the Vostro and Inspiron lines were revamped means that Dell ran out of parts. When a company frantically tries to order parts and assemble them to get to the customer, then quality control falters. People will complain if they don't receive their laptop in a set amount of time. People will complain if they get shoddy materials. Lose-Lose situation for Dell there.

After reading on this forum I just called them up and told them I just got my laptop and used a 20% coupon and now I see a 30% coupon and I'd like the difference refunded. She balked for a split second (I think she thought I was talking about a store coupon) then she realized what was going on and got the refund started and gave me a confirmation number. It took 10 days to show up on my credit card but I did get the refund. No fuss no problem! Gotta give HP credit for being cool!!

    Thanks Reby,

I can deal with that 30 day window. I just didn't want to buy and the next week they re-release the 30% coupon. (Sigh, I'm such a maximizer.)

<minor thread hijak>BTW, your setup is exactly what I'm looking at. Anything you would change with it?</minor thread hijak>

You are one of the lucky ones Reby, because after the 30% coupon came out the first time there was a post about receiving money back if you ordered it before the coupon came out. Nobody who posted on the threads that called in to get a refund had any success. HP was a stone wall about it, and for those of us that it happened to if we wanted to extra money we had to get our laptop then return it back to them then re-order with the coupon. I don't think that HP will give everybody the same refund they gave you, unless they completely changed their ways in regards to how they handle the online coupons.

Really there are only a few things about the laptop that bug me. The number one item would be XP over Vista but I have an XP Pro license I can use so I can remedy the situation. I'm still throwing games at the laptop to see how many games in my library will run and be stable under Vista, so far only about 5 out of 50 games havent run, or have CTD over and over (the CTD's are mostly from Dungeon Keeper 2, but that game always was twitchy). I still have another stack of CD's to test *sigh* where did I get all these games lol!!

What kind of 7200rpm drives come with the 9500? 8MB or 16MB cache?
