My wife recently picked up Windows 7 (student discounted) for her older DV6604. We did a clean install of 7 and now the computer is having a lot of issues. The screen resolution won't go past 1024x768, the sound is different and terrible sounding, and when typing (say like this post for instance) it randomly skips to somewhere else in the paragraph as I'm typing (I'm not touching the pad).

I'm having trouble finding updated drivers on HP's site for Windows 7. Any ideas?

    Sound Altec Lansing

ok, altec lansing makes SPEAKERS, not [as far as I know] sound cards.
Going to suggest that it's a realtek board [most common, HP uses frequently.

Oh, and this is the apple/mac forum. I think you wanted HP ;) [disregard this note if a moderator moves the post]

a mod should move this to the hp forums. To the O.P, make sure you go to the hp website and download all the official windows7 drivers for your laptop. good luck.

if your cursor is skipping around to different paragraphs in windows go to google and download a program called touchfreeze. this will stop your cursor from hippity hopping around the screen while typing.

this also needs to be moved to the hp forum still

Windows Update lists some of the drivers you need as "optional" so you'll have to manually select them. You'll probably need to get the flash card reader drivers from outside of Windows Update, and even then Windows 7 will probably point you to the correct file.

If you cannot find the drivers for Windows 7, use the Drivers for Windows Vista. They should work until you find the Windows 7 drivers.
