    hi all!

with help (Thank you!) from several threads here (even though they were for an intel based chipset) i've completed the downgrade of vista to xp successfully Except for the OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller exclamation point!

using siw.exe i see it's an: OHCI Firewire Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE-1394 Controller. i've tried downloading every ricoh driver i can find and none of them have any inf files showing anything IEEE. the rest of the card reader files are there just no 1394... please help! :)

    thanks!
    jb

it turns out there is No Way to find a different RICOH 1394 driver to resolve this issue. i took the time to reformat my system, load vista, download the hp vista drivers, find and copy out the 1394.inf ricoh info and sys files, loaded my xp ghost back on and try the vista files. it takes the updated files and still has the exclamation point. since it did not correct the problem i copied my default xp files back to their original locations and proceeded.

i do remember however that on one of the pages i searched about someone saying they flashed their system back to F-28 (i will look through my history files and if i can find it i will give them credit here) for others who are struggling with this issue, and there are Lots!

as a long time computer tech (i started in 1989) i tend to be hesitant about flashing a BIOS unless the system is having issues and Always about going backwards! in this case however HP did something in their F-30 - F-32 BIOS versions that causes an incompatibility. i did a search for F-28:

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38368.exe

and now the exclamation point is gone and the firewire connects to test devices :)

with as many problems vista has caused, one can only hope that windows 7 is better but for people who do not wish to go there thank God there's places like this to help people find drivers for XP! again i owe the majority of my success in "downgrading" this system for my coworker to this forum :)
