I just configured a set-up with the T9300 processor, 8400 gs, and 3 gb of ram, which I'll mostly be using for schoolwork in college and some light gaming. The price isn't the problem, and I want to use it for 4 years through college. But am I out-configuring my needs, and will it be hotter, and have a shorter battery life, if I say, went with a T8300 or T9100?
Any feedback would be really appreciated.

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
A 8300 has almost similar performance as 9300 and costs less.

Also consider reading the RAM Deals thread and buying your RAM from someone other than HP. Most laptop vendors overcharge WAY too much.

Generally speaking, the higher a processor's frequency is rated, the more power it consumes and the more hotter it will run. Granted, Intel is making great strides in producing processors that sip power and run much more cooler (45nm SOI and High-K gate methods), and this translates well to the mobile market.
For your needs, the T8300 will offer more than enough processing power for what you plan to do with your notebook. The T8300 processor will still be a very viable computing solution for years to come; the T9100, in my opinion, is for those folks that want bleeding edge technology (as well as bragging rights), and are prepared to pay a hefty premium for it.
