I recently purchased a dv6700tse laptop with the Geforce 8400m gs video card. Has anyone else with the same graphics card notice that the 2d performance under Vista and XP is lacking. The aero effects are laggy and in xp the windows when dragged are also laggy.

What can I do to prevent this? I know that the 8400m GS 256mb can do better than that! My geforce 6100 and 7200 laptops do aero much faster.

Do you have the latest drivers for the video card installed? I'm not talking about the ones on HP's website, because they are always outdated, but the ones on Nvidia's website or on http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Areo Performance is okay for the 8400GS if you use laptopvideo2go drivers the Areo Affects on the Windows Experience score will jumpfrom 3.4 to 3.5 and gaming from 4.2 to 4.4 i know it doesnt mean too much but hope this helps

I downloaded and installed drivers from Laptopvideo2go, but my score still stays at 3.4, and gaming score is still stuck at 4.2. What could I be doing wrong. I installed the 169.09 version derivers/....

I found that if I force the 3d clocks with rivatuner, everything runs smoothly. The only problem now is the heat that it creates.

I used Version 163.75 and your specs on your laptop are quite similar to mine try using that driver and see what happens

8400m GS should be able to run aero no problems. Most drivers will give you choppiness though. Do you have Ntune installed? This gave me major choppiness before

I am bit ignorant abt laptop video driver versions.Isn't 169.09 supposed to be more updated and latest driver compared to 163.75, so likewise give better performance???
Otherwise, is there any visual difference b/w 169.09 and 163.75 other than scores under vista scores??

Some drivers are better, some are not, and some are just fixes for specific programs/games. It says this on the lv2go.com website somewhere. So the latest drivers isnt always the best but it might give you better support and compatibility
