I've been using desktop PCs since the days of the XT, but this is my first notebook. It's got Vista Home Premium and I installed an HP ExpressCard TV tuner, which came with almost zero documentation (as did the notebook itself).
I was able to set up the tuner using the remote control and Quickplay that came installed on the PC. It seems that this also activates some Windows Media Center features because I am seeing some Media Center messages, such as when it downloads the program guide occasionally. But I'm still not clear on where Quickplay ends and Media Center begins as far as the available features.
What I am trying to figure out right now is the procedure for recording a show. It's easy to use the program guide and then press the "record" button on the remote -- that much is just like using my regular DVR. But what do I have to do to make sure that the notebook will wake up at the correct time to record the show? It normally goes into sleep mode after a few minutes or if I close the cover. Will a scheduled recording wake it out of sleep mode? I'm sure it would not wake it if it's hibernating, but "sleep" is a lot easier to wake up from.
Also, should I leave Quickplay running, or is it OK to exit the main Quickplay program once the recording has been scheduled? Thanks in advance if anyone can give me some pointers on using this feature.
