Just got my brand new DV6T in the mail, and already thinking about swapping the hard drive which hasn't really live up to my expectations. I've been looking all over for an clear hd swap how-to thread but been unable to find one!

Also I am trying to figure out if I'm supposed to have cool sense, when I try and run it from the program menu or the hp support center it says its not supported on this system but I was led to believe I would have it.

So far I like the machine, but am slightly disappointed with the display quality, especially since it seems sub par compared to the display on my 3 year old compaq that I bought for 300 dollars. My wife and I had a budget of 800 going into this, but we let the 956 slide so we could have the xbox360, but now I'm considering sending it back and waiting for a better deal. We don't need an xbox 360. Any thoughts on whether I can get a similar configuration with the 1080P for around 800 in the next couple of months?

thats what happens when you get the 1366x768. The 1080p screen is the best screen i have ever used on a laptop.

Here is how I plan to swap out the hard drive once the SSDs come down in price enough for me to get a reasonably large one:

    1) Use HP's utilities to make the 4 backup disks (you should do this immediately when you get the machine).
    2) Physically swap the HDD for the SSD.
    3) Use the 4 disks to restore HP's default configuration.
    4) Do a Minimum Image Restore to get rid of all of the bloatware.

I asked about this plan in a previous thread and people seemed to think it was OK.

You should have it. Did it not work out of the box? Since the laptop is still new, have you tried a Minimum Image Restore?

There's a reason everyone here recommends the high-res display. The drawback is that you may have to fiddle with the fonts a little bit, but you get better contrast, colors and the like.

The next couple of months is heading into the holiday shopping season so it's possible. Look for either the 33% off deals or the $400 off ones or deals that stack with the "instant savings". $800 is kind of pushing it, but it might be possible.
