The screen I have on my dv6 laptop only allows 1366x768 resolution (i7 2670m(hd3000)/6770m). I've been having a bit of trouble with the screen lately (freezes, fades to white, etc.), and I'm considering buying an external monitor.
The external monitor I'm looking to purchase has a resolution of 1920x1080; given that my laptop screen allows only 1366x768, would this affect the external monitor resolution as well? Or will I be able to use the laptop with 1920x1080 on the external monitor with proper setup?
Also, the monitor has DVI-D support; can I purchase HDMI to DVI cable to connect my laptop to the external monitor?

    Thanks..

As a side question; has the BSOD when switching to dedicated graphics card been fixed with the recent updates? I'm currently on 13.11 beta 9.2, and I sometimes get BSOD when switching.

You can use any external monitor you want up to 1080p. The HDMI->DVI cable will work fine but only up to 1920x1080p no higher resolution.

As for BSOD, try older intel drivers.
