    Hello,
I will be receiving my Dv6T QE very shortly, and was just wondering what GPU driver upgrades I need to do right away. As of now, I have a small understanding of what different types of drivers there are, ones for:

    The Intel 3000
    The AMD 6770m
    The Catalyst Control Center

    (correct me if I'm wrong)

These are all required to make the GPU's work properly (including switchable graphics), but I want to know if I need to download and install any updates to these after I receive the stock configuration to either make things work better, or to gain an increase in performance. Also, should I update the graphics drivers if windows update finds any?

    Thanks

The upgrade is not required, but others have said that the latest drivers increase performance. Get driver updates from "Windows Update" and then install the ATI driver 11.5b hotfix ( http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst115ahotfix.aspx). A few people said you have to go from stock driver to 11.5a to 11.5b, but I just went directly from stock to 11.5b with no noticeable problems (perhaps I am not getting all the performance *shrug*). I hope this helps.

Thanks, that is what I was wondering, if there were any intermediate steps before installing the hotfix...

So, I installed all of the "important" windows updates, but I saw that under the optional updates, there was one from AMD for the GPU. Should I install this one? Or go directly to the hotfix?

Just be sure not to install the 11.6 beta, it screwed up my drivers entirely.

    EDIT:

    I've got a dv7t-6100

    EDIT2:

Personally I just did what was suggested on my 6100 and I am successfully running 11.5b. It even gave additional options in the CCC

    EDIT3:
I am having one issue with the 11.5b drivers though. 3DMark Vantage wont run properly, when it comes up it stutters like crazy, however, World of Warcraft seems to run alright.

Interestingly, after installing the 11.5b drivers I was able to install the 11.6 beta drivers without issue. So currently the upgrade path is as follows:

    Base>Windows Update>11.5b>11.6 beta

It even corrected the stuttering issue in 3DMark Vantage. The Catalyst Control Center and Switchable Graphics panels are all working properly.

Just ran 3DMark Vantage (free) on my machine while running 11.6 beta drivers.

    Got a 6654 3DMark performance result.
    5516 GPU result

The information on notebookcheck says the 6770m only got a 6189 performance result, with a 5327 GPU result

Ok, the install worked perfectly for me...

First, i installed all the important updates on widows update, then I installed the optional AMD 6770m update (also from widows update), then I installed the 11.5b hotfix.

    Thanks guys

I think he wants a link to these 11.6 beta drivers, as I cannot find any information on them anywhere.

Is it good to install the AMD 6770M update from windows update? Right now my current configuration is completely stock drivers with just the 11.5b hotfix installed.

I went from stock, to windows update drivers to 11.5b to 11.6 leaked beta. The 11.6 would complete benchmarks, but were slower than the 11.5b drivers for me. I got p6854 with 11.5b and P6666 with the 11.6 leaked drivers in vantage. The benchmark vids would glitch in vantage with the 11.5b drivers in vantage but I got a higher score, and running RIFT (MMO game) I was getting higher FPS with the 11.5 b drivers.

I noticed that before you do the windows update 6770m driver, the card shows up in device manager as "6700 series". After the update, it is "6770m"

I wasnt too keen on the 11.5b drivers with all the video glitches in 3DMark Vantage, but if they run clean in games I may switch back for the performance.

My results mirror BrokenSocials. I got nearly identical scores with both sets of drivers. I'm sticking with 11.5b for now. I get flawless performance in games, and they are extremely fast with no artifacts, other than the stuttering in 3DMark, which I can live with, as long as it doesn't carry over to games. We benchmark to get better gaming results, not the other way around, so I'm not going to get caught up benchmarking the switchable graphics when they're otherwise working flawlessly.

After installing the 11.5b drivers, if you go to device manager -->display adapter --> the radeon graphics comes up as 6700 series instead of 6770m. Does this happen to anyone else? I have the dv6tqe 6100 series

So I installed 11.5b and performance increased a little bit, the thing is when i go to device manager, the graphics card is shown as "HD 6700M series" is that supposed to be like that, because I dont think my gpu drivers got updated through windows update, is there a way to download it manually ?
