My DV6T is very new and for an unknown reason it's not shutting down properly. This happened 2 times now.

What's happening is that it would take too long to shut down that it won't power off at all. It's stuck at the screen saying "shutting down" with a circle on the side. I have to push the power button for a few seconds so it would turn off.

I have done MSI when I got the laptop but I haven't updated any drivers except for the graphics card. Any help?

It's probably hanging while trying to shutdown a process. I think there is a verbose shutdown you could turn on to see where it stops.

I haven't tested this but it came up in a search for how to turn this on.

Click Start—type regedit—Important; right click on the regedit icon and choose Run as administrator.
When regedit opens, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE—SOFTWARE—Microsoft—Windows—CurrentVersion—Policies—System
Click Edit—New—Dword (32-bit) Value. Rename this value VerboseStatus (this will appear in the right-side pane)
Double-click on the newly created VerboseStatus and give it a value data of 1 and click OK.
Close the registry and restart the computer.

OK I've done this. I've restarted and everything's normal. What did that exactly do?

It doesn't really happen all the time. It just happened 2 times since I got the laptop, and I'm just worried.

Mine does that too. I have a theory, but not sure about it.
I think it has to do with the battery or ac power. I know it
does not shut down more often when you have switched between
battery power and wall power or vice versa. Seems if you
only used it on battery it shuts down, or shuts down fine if you
only used it on ac. If you switch it has trouble shutting down and
you have to hold the power button for a few seconds to force a shut down,
it might also have to do with the ATI vs Intel graphics changing from
the different power types. Can anyone confirm this?

I found that the problem was about the automatic switching of the graphics card.Whenever the charger was removed, it will switch to Intel graphics. I turned that feature off and it never happened again.
