Yes it is possible but it needs to be done carefully. If you have an oven with temperature control instead, i'd rather suggest sticking the mobo in there. See: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1421792
I did it to a Nokia phone board that shut down randomly, and it worked. -
great! a expert to give me some advises to
at what time and hot temperature i try to
repair the nvidia chip of my pavilon notebook ?
help me.... -
200 degrees Celsius for 6-8 minutes seems to have done the job for most people, me included. You don't want the solder to get to melting point (which is 230ish for lead-free solder if i remember right) since stuff will start to fall off the board then. All that is needed is for the flux inside the solder to flow, which is enough for strengthening the joints. If you see a light brown color appearing around the edges of soldered parts it means the flux has flown. Having an oven with built-in light helps, but it's not essential. The temperature control is the most important part, and don't leave it more than 10 minutes in.
Preheat the oven first, and be very careful not to bump the tray when you take it out. Allow 30 minutes for the board to return to room temperature. Put the board on 4 balls of aluminum foil, one under each corner. It's very important that no parts of the board touch the tray. Then in the oven it goes.
As for using a heat gun, i don't know as i didn't try it. You should ask someone who fixes Xbox 360s, heat gun fixes seem to be done pretty often on them. -
great !!!!
200 degrees Celsius for 6-8 minutes
the air-flow very slow or medium ????
and the air ON the top of the chip or in the
bottom in the PBC ???
an important:
there is not a GUIDE to disassembly (open) the
HP pavlion series DV6xxx ?
tahnks !!! -

It'll say nvidia on top of the video chip. If using a heat gun a shorter time and slightly higher temperature is needed i believe... Yes, the air should be aimed at the chip not at the bottom of the board.
