I did a search of the forums and couldn't find a thread matching mine. Some close, but not quite the same problem or the solution didn't work for mine.

I have an HP DV7, specific model 1262us. I got this used and came with the problem, so I do not know any specifics of what may have caused the issue. I do not have the proper powersupply (atleast not a working one), but I have 2 that are close enough that they should work (a
Dell 19.5V 4.62A, and an older HP 18.5V 4.9A. both 90W). The correct model is 19V 4.74A. The older HP is likely the best one to work, but I tried both anyways. Both end up with the same result: the laptop turns on for about 1-3 seconds and then turns off, lighting up the LEDs on the keyboard and spinning up the CPU fan. I know this issue has been mentioned before, but what I found different is that 1) no LEDs light up with the adapter simply plugged in (no LED next to plug, no charging LED, etc), 2) trying the reset method (unplug adapter, battery, hold down power for 15-30 seconds, replug in) doesn't fix it, and 3) if the battery is removed, the laptop will not even attempt to turn on as if the battery is required even to do that much.

The following are things I've done so far:
    - disassembled the laptop and checked all components
    - checked power jack for voltage through connector and motherboard cable
    - applied AS-5 to the CPU as its thermal grease didnt look great
    - reseated CPU
    - made sure there was no dust in the vents or fan
    - checked voltage/amp of the powersupplies in use
    - did reset trick
    - tried letting the laptop sit and hopefully charge (it didn't)
    - tried removing memory and harddrives and various combinations of both

After all this, I still cannot seem to get the laptop to stay on. I would greatly appreciate any and all help on this matter, as I would like to get this laptop running. Its a perfect replacement for my older Dell Inspiron. Thanks :)

There's a lot of DV7 1262US's. If you could provide us with the product number.

Or just select it from the list here. -- HP PartSurfer

It will list your AC Adaptor's part number. You can buy it from HP or google the number and get it from a reseller. One such reseller is Blue Raven, go to the link below and put in the number. I would avoid ebay.
