first of all, i have a DV7-4060us. yesterday i left my laptop alone to download something. about and hour later i came back to a frozen laptop. i didnt think much at first because there are about 900 other issues with this POS laptop... anyway, i turned it back on and received no video. the caps light blinks continuously and the WLAN light is lit up orange. according to some research ive done, the blinking caps means "insufficient power"
this doesnt really make sense... the fan turns on just as its supposed to and the heatsink gets hot as though everything's working.

    what ive done:
    tried a hard reset
    taking out cmos battery
    tried switching around the RAM
i tore the laptop down to just the screen and the board (same issue)

i couldnt find much information and only saw a few other similar issues. ive wanted to throw this thing out of my window since ive had it, and now this? wow HP... ive had this laptop for about 8 months.

    any help is appreciated!!!

Your GPU might have been damaged due to heat or is starting to lose contact with the motherboard (of course I don't know that for sure). My friend had a similar problem with a HP Tablet, luckily his problem was that his laptop went to Hibernate and (at the time) he didn't have the latest drivers with Vista and therefore the GPU never came out of sleep. I had to remove all sources of power, including battery for at least a day, then restarted without battery (which you don't have to do) to see what happened.
    Did your laptop run HOT?
This issue is why the 360 Gets the RRR and also why my friend's tablet got messed up.
For now, just try what I did (the least you can do)
    Just trying to help :)

the hottest the GPU ever got was ~65C and ~73C for the CPU. ive been having issues where i cant even play a game on it for more than 20 mins before the laptop would artifact and restart, and i dont believe it was due to overheating. the code from the caps lock light is supposed to mean insufficient power, so thats pretty confusing. i may try the hair dryer fix... wasnt hp sued for that though? this is a new laptop... i would think it would have been a fixed issue by now. HP will never get my money again! time for a sager i suppose

If you can't play a game for more than 20 mins, if it artifacts and crashes, I think this is a strong symptom of heating issues.

but it never got above 72C... thats far too low to be overheating. im thinking i have a screwed up GPU or motherboard. i know of other manufacturers that have the same components running fine at much higher temperatures... oh how i love hp. it would be nice if i could simply swap out the GPU to test but thats such a pain. this laptop just isnt worth the time or extra money, im moving on to something that will last more than 8 months
