I recently bought a DV7-2070ED with a T4200 cpu on board. Is it possible to replace it with a P8400 cpu?
I already replaced the T4200 with the P8400 (came from a broken down HP6730B notebook) but the thing won't start then. The P8400 is okay and working, so that should not be the problem.

Could it be the bios? I already found out that my DV7 is (almost) similar to the DV7t-series and they support cpu's like the P8600. Also the DV7t seems to use the same bios.

    Any ideas?

Download CPU-z and check what chipset you have. If it says PM45 then the answer is Yes to the upgrade.

I checked that and it says PM45 rev. 7. So it should be no problem. Also I have the latest bios F.24. I'll try again tonight if it works with this latest bios.

Hello mate, yes you can change the CPU to a P8600. It is not an easy job though, you will need to take the whole laptop apart.

If you are willing to do that download the service guide from HP's website, it give clear step by step instructions.
