EDIT: Inserts are there after all, HP just includes the wrong length screws!??
Well Im pissed at the quality from HP.
I finally received my DV7 and from the start there was problems. I removed the protective clear tape and the damn speaker cover peels off with it w/ the HP logo...really!? It not that big of a deal, I pressed it back on. Then I go to install the 2nd hard drive and HP forgets to put the 2 brass threaded inserts in so there nothing for the screws to screw into?
Im on the phone with HPs "tech support" and the Indian lady has no earthly clue of what Im talking about when I say its missing the 2 brass threaded inserts. I had to spell everything for her and she created a ticket and says a case manager will contact me soon. She repeats my phone number back with a 602 area code (I have a 903) followed by somebody elses phone number, after I just gave her my number less than a minute ago? We'll see how this turns out. Id hate to return it because 1, I dont have time to wait for another laptop to be built and 2, I dont want to order another one and have the inserts missing again.

Trying to register my HP 3yr warranty and HPs site says:
3005180987: Error: This HP Care Pack service is not valid for this hardware product, please re-check your hardware product number. If you feel your hardware product number is valid, please contact the company that sold you the service to resolve the issue.;
WOW I bought it directly from HP at the same time / order I bought the laptop. Im on hold w/ HP and they show no record of the serial number associated w/ the care pack I received. Im so tempted to just send this HP back and go w/ Sony. I will say I LOVE how quick the SDD is!! -
Inserts are there....

I just opened my new HP DV7-7047CL to upgrade memory and I saw that the 2nd hdd slot also looks like it does not have threads for the second hard drive. Did you ever figure out this problem?
I also noticed that the main HDD bay says M2.5 XL4 which is a screw size. The second HDD bay says M2.5XL9

i have buyed 2nd caddy
from america, i live in italy

I have a dv7-7212nr.
The threaded inserts are there - the M2.5XL9 indicates the screws need to be 9mm long. The threaded part is in the lower part below where you can see & you need longer screws (9mm). I bought a caddy, cable, & screws kit on ebay. It came with the 9mm screws. They worked just fine, even though it looked like there were no threaded inserts.. -
I cracked my screen the other day and bought the home repair warranty. The tech came out last week, ended up replacing the entire lid but he couldnt put my keyboard back on so I spoke with a HP manager today and theyre sending me a box to ship it to a US repair center. I went to remove my 2nd hard drive and what do you know...the HP tech that came out to repair the screen put in to longer screws for me.
EDIT:
Heres what I received from HP.
Label that was on the outside of the box they shipped the 2nd hard drive caddy in.
Label on the parts bag.
Parts included in the kit.
Screws they included:
-4x screws to screw the hard drive caddy to the hard drive itself.
-2x screws to screw the hard drive caddy to the DV7 screw holes.
The correct length screw vs the screw they sent in their kit.

I had this same problem.
I found the screws to order here:
M2.5x8mm Wafer, Pan, Flat Head Laptop Computer Metric Machine Screws
There is a note on that website regarding HP/Compaq:
Please be advised that errors have been found in HP/Compaq manuals regarding the screw sizes. Usually the error is in the diameter of the screw. An M2.5 reported as an M2 or an M3 reported as an M2.5. If possible measure a screw before you order or order the screw in both diameters if you are in doubt.
Also be aware that HP/Compaq manuals show measurements of the overall screw. For an M2.5x9 HP screw please order an M2.5x8
DV7-7000 : no threaded inserts for the 2nd hard drive !?
