HP's configurator has a 16GB (2 Dimm) option for the DV6T Quad, but only up to 8GB (2 Dimm) is offered for the DV7T Quad. Is the 8GB an actual maximum memory limitation for the DV7T Quad? I thought the same chipset was being used in both laptops...am I mistaken?
If 16GB is possible in the DV7T Quad, has anyone done it, and if so, which modules (brand, speed, timings) are you using?
Thanks.

They just added the 12 & 16 GB configurations for the dv6t in the last week.
Have any particular reasons for considering that much RAM? -
I will be using the computer mostly to run multithreaded apps which access very large databases and hashtables loaded into memory. All eight logical cores will be maxxed out. I ordered a DV7T Quad with the free upgrade to 6GB, but my intention is to install an 8GB kit initially, and eventually 16GB down the road (when 8GB modules become available at a reasonable cost).
So I'm wondering if 16GB was possible like it is in the DV6T, and if so, what brand, speed and timings can be used. Any ideas? -
the 12 and 16 gb options for the dv6 both use 2 dimms, so i dont see why the 17 inch cant do the same thing

The least expensive kit I've seen, DDR3 SODIMM 16GB kit 2x 8GB, was over $950.

Exactly. I just wanted to know if it was possible, as I believe the spec sheet says 8GB is the maximum, but the DV6T can be ordered with up to 16GB.

I would suspect the dv7t is the same, but I would call HP and ask them to be certain.
