So, i am looking at buying this laptop:

    hp pavilion dv7tQE

    i7 2630QM
    1GB Radeon 6770
    6gb or 8gb ram

for games, i mainly play just Starcraft 2. Currently play it on a desktop with an i7 920 with 6gb ram and GTX260 card.... i can play on ultra settings and very smooth...

    How will this laptop do?

I was using a HP4272us which has an AMD triple core processor and can barely play smooth well on low settings (which looks like crap).... should i be considering a different machine?

On the Dv7tqe, ultra will run with about 25-30 fps. You might want to refer to the Dv6/Dv7 gaming thread. Ultra, I've heard, is pretty smooth.
The 6770m is a very high end mobile graphics card, you should have no problems.

It'll play well on the 6770m though Im not sure you can play smoothly on ultra at 1080. I play at 768 on medium just so I ensure that everything really is smooth. At that resolution and setting I can hit a peak of about 120 FPS. Of course that plummets in battles or when there is a lot of creep around. I suppose I could play comfortably on high and maybe ultra at that res too.
