    i read that the sockets for the new IVY bridge, the successor to the current Sandy bridge CPUs are backwards compatible, therefor is it possible to swap out CPUs once its released?

    I think that's for desktops only. I don't think that mobile IB will be compatible with SB laptops.

    No, and even then if it were yes, BIOS support will need to be added which won't be happening.
