I'm using a 4GB SDHC in the sd slot as "readyboost". It significantly helped with playing Crysis. This is because the Nvidia 9600M GT is capable of going to 2GB of memory if the system has the excess available. I have 4GB DDR2 6400 800MHZ Ram and the 4 GB SDHC card. I plan on going to 8GB DD2 6400 800Mhz and a 8GB SDHC Extreme II card. This should yield full resolution playing with most options set to Gamer. Also the video card IS upgradable from what I understand. I'm working out which connection I need. I believe it is PCI Express or something of that nature. Please elighten me if im mislead. Thanks Jae. :D

it's not soldered to the board, you just have to open the entire case to get at it.

    the 9600m is MXM II

the ONLY upgrade right now would be a 9650m gt... which is an overclocked 9600 (with a 55nm core) so it's not worth paying $300+ for, if you could even find one

    Not true..

For your Sager it is user upgradable because you have MXM slots.

    HPs are different.

Kool! Thanks man! So I'll just wait a couple of months and then upgrade. Also what about the 9800M GTX?

    It says PCI Express right?

HPs are infamous for having proprietary videocards and having them permanently soldered onto the motherboard without chance of replacing.

well... just take it apart and find out.

pci express is a technology.. not a specific port

and NO, even if it is not soldered you would only be able to fit MXM II cards. the 9800M GTX is MXM III and is a lot bigger dimension wise

Trust me you cannot upgrade it, its literally integrated to the board. Even look at your service manual.

And trying to upgrade a soldered gpu would be rocket science. No one has successfully done it.

Looks like OP just won't accept the fact that he can't do it and wants to wander off thinking he can. Let him dream then

No. Just not a "can't do" kind of person. Apperantly you guys are more of the band-wagon kind. I'll keep my search going and hopefully will come up with something useful and not just "can' do it" BS! :D

The HP dv7t is not a MXM laptop. And the GPU is soldered on to the motherboard. You cannot 'un-solder' it off, no matter how good your friends are. YOU CANNOT UPGRADE YOUR DV7T's GPU!

Also, that readyboost BS doesnt do anything. Its meant for people with 2GB RAM who want a boost not someone who already has 4GB... Also that 'excess memory' and turbo cache Doesnt do anything at all. Its all marketing, no performance gain at all. Face it, your not going to be playing Crysis on Ultra High at WSXGA....

Lop, this upgrading question pops up every day... "i haz X1400 but it cant run criSiS can iz buy 4870x2 and upgrade mah cpu????////" lmfao

Heh, even if you could put the hardware in the laptop, what do you plan on doing about the Bios. Do you plan on writing your own bios to support the new card?

I beg to differ. With the settings I have now. When i take the ready boost off the game lags horribly. Ready boost will only double what you have. i have 4GB of RAM. Thus allowing the readyboost to double that. So essentially I have 8GB of RAM. The computer uses 1300+/- idling. with crysis going it's 3700+/- only leaving 300+/- to add to the card. 512+300= 812MB to the video card. When I have 4GB in RAM and 4Gb in readyboost it leaves 3780(exactly what I set the readyboost to)+300=4GB to the card. Chit, the card can only handle 2.1GBs. So I guess I'm maxxed out now.

PS Once the internal RAM is 8GB DDR2 6400 800MHz(however long it takes for the memory to come down in price) it will operate much more efficiently.
