I'm not really all that up to date on laptop hardware, especially so far as the screen and such is concerned, but I would like to put a WUXGA screen in my DV7t, is this possible? Will just any WUXGA panel work and plug in, or am I going to be stuck with an HP WSXGA+ panel? Either way, I have to upgrade this 1440 x 900 display, because it's killing me.

some people have done that on dv9000 series, but I don't think this is possible for dv7t bc of glass cover.what about selling it and getting new one?

I actually don't have the Infinity glassed in display, so I might be ok there. As for selling it, I could, but I hate to. It's not a bad rig other than the screen, and I don't think I could get equal (2.4GHz, 6GB RAM, 9600m, 500GB HD) for what I could sell it for.

If you can find a screen replacement reseller it's certainly possible. I know there are a ton of them out there, just be aware it'll cost some money ($200-300) and you'll void a warranty if you have one. Also, LCD electronics and ribbon connectors are very fragile so take extra care in that regard.

Personally I'm gonna try replacing the CCFL bulb inside of my dv7 with a brighter one someday...

Thanks MM. I'm ok on the money front, it's a lot cheaper then a new laptop, and I'm ok with taking it apart and everything, I just wasn't sure about connectors and LCD panel types and what have you. Just to clarify, any LCD panel that matches the screen size should work?

    Hi there!
Just letting you know, this issue was already posted before.
It has been done, and it works fine.
I installed a WUXGA 1920x1200 screen into my dv7t. I have a Brightview Infinity Display and I managed to do it.
There are only 2 available suppliers for the WUXGA screens that I have come across (well that were willing to ship overseas that is). Both in the U.S; If you would like to buy from a reputable company go for SmartMicroUSA they have a wide range of screens available for almost any laptop.
The dv9700t and the newer dv7t share the same LCD display/ribbon cable/etc therefore you will be able to interchange between the two.
SmartMicro retail the screens for about $275 U.S last time I checked I think?/....
While you can purchase from eBay (possibly a lesser quality, I don't know) screens that retail at $175 U.S. they both have factory one year warranty's.
They also have DOA warranties as well.

If you are unsure of your ability to replace the screens use this website as it provides step by step video walkthroughs for partners/repair centre technicians... also for the budding home enthusiast :)

Now keep in mind that the dv7t video is not actually on the site, so use the dv5t videos for a rough guide also use the maintenance guide provided on the support and drivers website by HP. The maintenance guide is not too in depth, but it does provide you with the basic steps and also the pictures.

NOTE: Many people have stated that this is impossible with the Brightview Infinity Display; this is not entirely the case... it is of course possible however if you have the BVID care is needed because some laptops actually have a seal between the glass and the display, so when you pull the bezel off, then go to take off the LCD panel you may encounter heavy resistance between the lcd panel and the glass panel, take care as cracks can easily happen. Fortunately for mine the rubber seal was worn and came off easily (it is used in AUS models, i think... i don't know about anywhere else) so the LCD came out with little effort.

    Hope that helps

Also if you do decide to upgrade your display it doesn't void your warranty completely...
If you have a problem relating to the display or a failure because of the display (which is unlikely because the display is the last output??? nothing else depends on the display... you could sorta say) then HP will not fix it.

With my previous experience from HP warranty service centers; I don't think I'd care if it voided my warranty; the service they gave me last time was as good as if I had no warranty (They claimed that Battlefield 2 could not run on an 8600M GS Video Card??? ? I told them it was due to the display not being able to reach a refresh rate of 60Hz [mine was, stuck on 59], and I told them this was a defect on their behalf not mine... so they told me to bring the lappie to a service centre (3 different operators said that it was due to incompatibilities with the GFX card, the 4th actually had some sense and proceeded to take my case further)... they took it overnight and "Copied" all my HDD's because I had installed a retail version of VISTA ULTIMATE and used an OEM registry hack to get the picture in my system properties (but because i had accidently used the Dell pic and forgot to change it tehy believed it was fraudulent) They copied 1TB worth of media, etc (which I regrettfully didn't take off when I gave it to them) and reported me to HP AUS FRAUD Centre..... (Also my OEM licence was faded to the point of no recognition from the heat that this thing produces! so they couldn't confirm my product ID)...
They told me to pick it up becuase they couldn't touch the laptop because of the DELL logo, etc... and I had to pay a HANDLING FEE OF $20......
I walked in grabbed my laptop and left without paying.
I bought a screen from SmartMicroUSA installed it myself and everything IS EXCELLENT!!!!!!!
They called a couple of weeks later asking how my experience was with their service, I blasted them on the fone and hung up, they called back apologetically a couple of days later and offered the lcd replacement (1440x900), I told them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine and vowed to take the matter further.... not really :D... just thought I'd sound all tough.
I also asked them if my warranty was still intact; they said because I had chosen to replace the screen myself, the only thing that the warranty does not cover is the display and the damage it may cause....
    yeah. unlikely to happen.
.hmm sorry about the life story... just thought some background info would help, and also to provide a point that Indian IT technicians don't have a clue what they're talking about, they're all idiots with little or no sense just the indoctrinated motto of IF IT'S BROKEN OR NOT WORKING, IT'S PROBABLY YOUR FAULT.
    ranting complete.
    sorry.

If you need any help MSG me.

Finally it lets me post! I've already sent you a PM thanking you, I just wanted to comment on the warranty rant. I have a somewhat similar story from Dell. I opened my notebook one day, and the entire right hand side down by the hinge assembly just came apart. The cheap little plastic brackets had broken off and the cover separated from the bezel from the media bar from the topcase. It was a mess. Call up Dell warranty service. Explain the issue. The tech tells me, "I'm putting on your record that it was accidental damage which the customer then made worse by attempting self-home repair," all because I stupidly inserted, "I tried to snap everything back into place..." into the description of the problem. After that, I couldn't even get calls through on the issue. Apparently Dell warranty doesn't deal with anything plastic period, because, and I quote, "Plastic's generally don't just break. It's always the customers fault when they do". It's nice, they make an entire notebook out of flimsy cheap plastic, then choose not to cover any of the plastic parts in their warranty. So I don't have much faith in my warranty, unless it's from Apple.
