Good News! [Not sure if U might already know this]...

I have contacted HP in Asia Pacific recently to make my purchase of the
'Hard Disk Bracket Tray' and surprisingly it was avaliable for SALE!!! Of which
you can just purchase the 'Bracket Tray' WITHOUT the HardDisk :)

The price stated is at USD42.0839 (af conversion)
by which sadly you not only get the 'Bracket Tray'
but also bundle with (See attachment image002.gif)

Pls note that the 'Bracket Tray' part number is 403816-001
    and can be use with DV8000 / DV8100 / DV8200

BTW. When I need to purchase the Notebook HardDisk,

    • Do I need SATA HardDisk for DV8000?
    • What do i need to tell the reseller vendor?
    • SATA Notebook HardDisk 5400RPM 120GB?
    • What the diffrence of the Normal harddisk and SATA harddisk?

    Thanks for your help...

I'm not sure that the 'Hard Disk Bracket Tray' Part,
Would be avaiable in your Region, but considering the facts
that Asia Pacific Region, already been able to order then I
guess most of other Region, should indeed be able to order as well :)

I think the best way is to contact your locate HP Service Center
and quote them with the part number of 'Hard Disk Bracket Tray'
403816-001 and see if they are avaiable for purchase...

I think the cost of 403816-001 shouldn't be higher than USD42.0839
if purchase directly from US, As I got this price based from AP region.

Oh did I mention that you can also opt for the HardDisk Version too?
By which also comes with the 'Hard Disk Bracket Tray'... :)
(see my attachments for the Part Number details)

BTW. When I need to purchase the Notebook HardDisk,

    * Do I need SATA HardDisk for DV8000?
    * What do i need to tell the reseller vendor?
    * Do I need to tell the vendor, " SATA" Notebook HardDisk 5400RPM 120GB?
    * What the diffrence of the Normal harddisk and SATA harddisk?

I can answer question #1... Only the DV8000t (Core Duo) uses an SATA drive.

My model is DV8205TX (Core Duo)

    • So do I need to use SATA?
    • What diffrence does SATA from normal harddisk?
    • Can I use the normal harddisk? or my model only support SATA?

    Thanks

SATA is Serial ATA. It uses different connectors than the old ATA (parallel) drives. The really nice thing is that both desktop and notebook SATA drives use the same connectors so you can put a 2.5" SATA drive in your desktop if you want without having to use a special adaptor.

    Anyhow, yes, you want SATA.

That part number brings up this:

403816-001 $21.00 Bracket : Display panel mounting brackets

Nothing is said about the other brackets, the hard drive mounting frame.

    Bump!

So based on WerAreNotAlone's search for this part number at HP's parts site, is this or is this part not available in the US or elsewhere? I think many dv8000t and z series users would be interested in ordering this if they didn't get the dual drives with their original config. Count me in that group.

According to 'HP in Asia Pacific' this part is for use with
    DV8000 / DV8100 / DV8200 ['Bracket Tray' part number is 403816-001]

However I still haven't had my hand on the actual product yet.
I think it should arrive within this next couple of days

So will let you guys know, if this 403816-001 would work with my DV8205TX.
Maybe also some picture as well... =)

But now here is the issue, here in Malaysia... I have search around
(even in Singpore) They still don't have the SATA HDD in the market yet...

    - I was wondering is it possible for me to order via US website? As I check couple of website, they stated that they will only ship to US & Canada only..
    Why is this so?
    - Is there any website who will deliver to Asia Pacific?
    - I mean I check even check with the manufactor like Seagate and WesternDigital, They all don't have the stock in Asia Pacific yet...

    anyone can help? please?

Foreign governments and their customs agencies are a royal pain to deal with, so it's not worthwhile for most American mail order stores to even attempt it. Of the few items I've sold via eBay to foreign buyers, all but one were ripped open by customs and the buyers were charged heavy tarriffs. That includes one to Canada!

Oh dear, So now ... I will be left with a HardDisk Bracket with no HardDisk to put in to... :sigh:

I'm not going to order a SATA harddisk from HP... It wil cost me a fortune...

I guess I'll have to wait till the SATA harddisk will be avaiable in Asia then.

It's a metal bracket that's required to mount the hard drive in the case. While you can buy a second HD aftermarket, you'll need the bracket to mount in into the HD bay. So far, HP does not offer the bracket only as an available part . You can order a second HD with bracket aftermarket from HP, but the cost is something like $250/$300 last I looked. If you really want a second drive, you'll have to order it with the laptop for now. I'm hoping the part becomes available from HP in the future.

Great News! Is been a very very long wait since I order the 403816-001
and Today it finally arrive !!!

and Yes 403816-001 is indeed a Part Number for

    :) :) :) :) :)

    "Hard Drive Bracket"
    :) :) :) :) :)

also which comes with the package another 4 more component
    - Display Hinge Support Bracket
    - Optical Drive Bracket
    - Expansion Port 2 Bracket
    - Touchpad Bracket
Making a total of 5 Part in a pack of 403816-001

This cost me 169 RM (Malaysia Riggit)
*Including Delivery right to my door step

Anyway For those of you whom want this "Hard Drive Bracket" You can now order it... the part number is 403816-001 ( Please view the attachment on Page 1) for all component included in the package...

Btw... Now what am I going to do with the Balance Part which will be no use to me at all... I guess HP just cannot sell one Part as the cost would be too low for them to earn any profit...

Anyway... Trust me it's well worth it rather than to Customise made them yourself...

another thing.... to what I realise... In Malaysia or Singapore they don't sell any notebook SATA harddisk at all...
even they have a factory of "western Digital" here in Malaysia... Sigh... :(

I got the HardDisk bracket but with no hardDisk...

    how Ironic...

    Doesn't come with the screws

So you will need to order a Screw Kits as well...
the 'Screw Kits comes with many range of screws by which you will only need
    the 6 Screws....

    Screw Kit 403813-001
    -Phillips PM2.5×6.0 (2 Pieces)
    -Phillips PM3.0×4.0 (4 Pieces)

    Sigh...

I don't understand why HP is doing this !!!
seperate the Bracket & the Screws Kits...

Anyway Before you make any purchase just make sure if it comes with the screws... and i bet you it doesn't!!! So please make a purchase also of the Screw Kit 403813-001....

I don't know the cost of it... But I'm trying to find out from HP local agent...

I ordered just the bracket from Laptop Parts Warehouse.

It was $25 (+ $15 shipping) and included the screws to attach it to the drive. but not one to hold it in place in the laptop. So I just used one of the existing screws from the other drive. Ordered it on a Tuesday, and received on Friday

FWIW: Part # on invoice is "HARD DRIVE CADDY"

Can you give us a direct link to the part? I'm seeing various other HD caddies on the site but not a dv8000 one.

I would if I could, but I called them and ordered it. Told them I needed a hard drive bracked for a HP Pavillion dv8000 laptop, and they sent it to me.

I kinda wonder if that part is common to other HP laptops

I just ordered one for only $38. The part number was 403816-001. I specifically asked the sales person if it includes screws, and he said yes. I'll see whether it arrives as specified or not.
