    DV8000 -> Can't get DTS or DD through SPDIF mini optical cable!

    Hey,

    I've got a mini optical cable running through the SPDIF/headphone port of my DV8000, and it running to my 5.1 surround system. For some reason I can't get DTS or Dolby Digital signals to pass to my stereo, I can only get stereo signals.

    I have the Conexant HD Audio drivers installed, but I can't find a software interface on my notebook for the audio... all I can do it double-click the speaker in the tray and enable digital speaker. I'm looking for some software interface that allows me to test which speakers are setup, and adjust levels etc... but I can't find this interface.

    I did do a complete HDD reformat and OS reinstallation when I bought the notebook... did I miss an audio installation package that contains this particular interface that I am looking for, or does this interface even exist?

    I figured out my own problem...

    In control panel, and then 'sound and audio devices', there is an advanced tab somewhere that allows you to choose the number of speakers you have. To be honest, I don't think this really changed anything though.

    What really made the difference was installing a full version of PowerDVD and going into the configuration menu for audio and changing it to SPDIF. It was then that I was able to get Dolby Digital from my notebook to my sound system, or DTS when selected from the DVD menu.

    So it appears that Windows Media Player does not support Dolby Digital or DTS through the SPDIF cable at this point... or at least I don't know how to turn it on. I tried Windows Media Player Classic, and there are many audio options in there, but I had some problems like entirely missing the center channel audio.

    I was hoping to accomplish what you did... convert my notebook spdif to a digital optical. I want to use my PC as a digital jukebox on my home theater. Right now, I'm just using an analog 3.5mm male to 2 RCA cables... sounds ok, but i know its analog. Curious as to what kind of cable or converter you are using to accomplish this... appreciate the help!
