hey guys, I really love the HP DV8000 .. it has such a nice design and is so well built, so I was thinking of buying it, even though it is quite old..
BUT i could get it for like 900$ on ebay and was wondering if I could simply upgrade it to the new Core 2 Duo processor? And is it also possible (=doable) to exchange/upgrade other parts, such as the video card it comes with, or is it too hard?
I have not taken a look at the DV9000t yet, but watched this video here:
    http://www.neo-fight.tv/2006/11/episode_095_hp_pavillion_dv900.html
and I don't like its looks and built that much.. anyone in here who knows both from own experience? is the screen in the DV9000 better than in the DV8000?

I would actually not buy that computer. It's better build quality than dv9000t and it's not a fingerprint magnet like the dv9000t. But it has one major problem: the keyboard. If you search around the HP forum, you'll find several posts about dv8000t keyboard issues. Last time I checked, they were still having the keyboard problem. I think it's more of a hardware than a software problem so there's a very low chance of getting it fixed. Some users do not have that problem at all, but it seems like most dv8000t users are faced with this issue. I did tons of research before buying my dv6000t, and dv8000t was one of my top choices. If it wasn't for the keyboard problem, I would have definitely bought the dv8000t. You can message the ebay seller about the keyboard problem, but I'm guessing the reason he is selling it is because of that keyboard problem. If I were you, I would buy the dv9000t. Good luck.

thanks, I knew of the keyboard problem, but I know 2 guys and both have the dv8000t for like a year now and the keyboard is just fine.. I just love the dv8000t and would take that risk... IF I can upgrade it to a newer CPU as mentioned above.. so my question remains open.. how hard is it? and even more important: do you know of any resellers who sell upgraded versions of this nice machine?

It is possible to upgrade the processor to a C2D. You'll need a BIOS flash to do this. You can download an update from the HP website to do this.

You can also easily replace/upgrade other components like the RAM and HD. But you cannot upgrade the GPU.
