    DV8000 : Media Reader : RS-MMC / MS-DUO : NOT SUPPORTED?!?!?

    My model is DV8205TX.

When I got the notebook, there is a booklet marked 'IMPORTANT'
    which said that...

    The 6 in 1 Media Reader bay doesn't support RS-MMC / MS-DUO
or which means it doesn't support the 'Reduce size MMC' & 'MemoryStick Duo'
and also doesn't support the 'Adaptor'

With addtional note that using such 'media card' and/or it's adaptor will damange the notebook's 'Media Reader bay'...

question is that.... Why is this so?
    can anyone explain?

Well, it's called a 6 in 1 reader so I'm assuming that would be why it only supports the specified 6 formats. ;)

But But If I were to use the 'Memory Stick DUO' with the adaptor, it would be like the same size as the normal 'Memory Stick', right?

Then it should support... I can't see why HP said it would damage the drive?!?

My *guess* would be that these 2 cards might have different voltages and the MMC reader might not be capable of supporting these voltages. The adaptor will just make the card fit, but the reader migth still supply the wrong voltage frying the reader as well as the card.

I got the same "little" piece of paper with a dv8000t CTO.

I think it's a case of cover your rear end on HP's part...

Wonder if they have anything on their website that would "expand" on this issue?

    Thanks for the reply,

So the 'Normal' Card have a diffrent voltage as the 'RS/Duo' card?

But what happen was that I did use a MS-DUO on my previous model of DV4000, without ofcourse seeing the booklet marked important first...
Still i was able to use it....

Only when I got this DV8000, did I realise there was an attached booklet saying that using the RS or Duo card MAY damage the drive...

    ...

So anyone ever try using the RS / Duo card?
By the way how come I can use the MultiCard Reader like '16 in one' which support most RS / Duo card?
Why HP don't use or implement this type of card reader? to support duo voltage...

    just a thought... =)
