I just got my DV8000 a few days ago, I
I only ordered it with 1 hard disk because I wanted to buy a higher performance drive than what they offered in.
however, now I can't find a place to buy the drive holder/bracket/cage [I'm not sure what to call it.]
can somone please tell me where I can find this at? I really need to put the 2nd drive in and I hate to return he computer and re-order it with 2 drives just because I couldn't find the frame.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Try looking at Newegg.com - they've pretty much got almost everything to do with notebooks in the spare parts department.

Thought I'd seen someone mention this before:

Doesn't exactly sound good, but I guess you could PM him and ask how much HP was asking for it. -

Yeah, it was Ray's system I was writing about...
HP is unnecessarily irritating their customers by not offering the bracket separately, or better yet including it with the notebook. Yes, the second HD could be put in an external USB2.0 enclosure and used that way, but that seems silly when the notebook is designed for two HDs.
I suppose it's theoretically possible to take the bracket from the first drive and get someone to machine several copies. Maybe sell the surplus to Techexcess.net, heh. Hmm, unless there's more than just a metal bracket, like an adaptor that fits on the IDE connector like the zv5000z's have. -
Don't pay the exhorbitant prices HP wanta for a little piece of metal. The only purpose of the caddy is to hold the drive in the connector. You can easily fashion a piece of sheetmetal with appropriate holes to fit the laptop chassis and the hard drive mounting screws. Just put some electrical tape on the underside of the homemade bracket, and a thin piece of nonconductive material down in the bay before inserting the hard drive. Attach the bracket, insert the drive firmly, secure your homemade bracket to the chassis with appropriate screws, and cut thin strips of styrofoam to pack around the sides of the drve to keep it from jostling in the drive bay. Works great, just takes a little patience.

Hello, I know a lot a people are looking for this as also me. I also have a DV8000 and had the luck to find a friend in Hp who gave me some caddy's. So I am offering them for other people too.
for the cost $50 you get the caddy AND the screw kit (6 screws) and I'll include free shipping in the U.S.
emailme at [email protected] or check my ebay auction:

This caddy is if your system shipped with 1 hard drive, and you want to add another hard drive. You need this caddy. Hp's sells them only with the hard drive and its a $400+ option.

I've got a dv8000t hard drive bracket.... $30 shipped to US address.
Anyone wants it PM me, paypal me funds and it's yours.
BTW: I also thought about making a bracket, or not even using the bracket.... Unless you're a sheet metal worker, or a "tool and die maker" and have access to material to make a proper bracket the HP bracket is the way to go.
Addtionally you do NOT want to run the hard drive without the bracket as it can (and will) damage the SATA connector on the motherboard /and or damage the SATA connectors on the hard drive itself.
