I got a TOSLink adapter for my headphone out jack. At the other end of my TOSLink, I see a red light coming out of it, but when I plug it into my z5500, I don't hear any sound. I've got my desktop working with the same configuration, so I'm wondering what's wrong. Do I need special software with the audio drivers? I'm using the default one from the HP website.

The red light will glow even if you don't have the SPDIF enabled on your NB. In Vista that would be: Right Click the Volume Icon in the Task Bar -->select Playback Devices-->Right Click the SPDIF Output and click Enable--->Right-Click the SPDIF output again and select Set As Default. You should now be able to connect to your Z-5500s and output through Optical
