I'm considering getting the DV8000t but I am unsure of which screen option, its between these with the bottom 2 being what interest me the most. The one gives better resolution but the other one has ultra brightview but less resolution: Any advice?

    17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
    17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
    17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)

I have seen the Ultra and it is way to bright, and besides I got a 17" for more room so 1680 x 1050 made sence... and it looks great :)

I don't think I'll be pushing the screen to go at its max resolution, ill have to see when I get it which resolution I like best. But here on my 17in CRT at home, I usually run at like 1024, though that is hardly the same thing. :)

Does batterylife suffer alot BECAUSE that screen on the ultra is so bright? I wanna do everything on it and it includes games and watching movies/tv shows on it so would the normal be good enough for entertainment viewing?

you want to run LCD's at their native Res. if you don't like 1680 x 1050 I would go with the smaller res screen.

I have the ultra-brightview, and it's not over-kill, it just gives you more options. At lowest brightness it's perfect for dark/semi-dark rooms and at highest brightness is perfect for very bright rooms or sun light glare. I like it's versatility.

the ultra bright view is awesome! I am sooo happy with it. When the brightness is at its lowest, it looks like the screen from my zd7000. At its max - its a charm to work with in well lit place, at its lowest its perfect in complete darkness.

Another vote for the Ultra Brightview. Love it. When you get to be my age, 40 something, text at 1680 X 1050 just means getting my glasses out - now where the hell did I leave them? The Ultra gives a nice even brightness at any level you set it. On battery, it defaults to the lowest setting and I have no problem seeing / reading anything. Get's about 3 hours on battery, maybe more - haven't time it that exactly.

If I were a young'n, I'd probably think harder about the higher resoultion of the WSXGA screen, but the Ultra works great for me.

I have the 1680x1050 resolution because I need the desktop space. ( stock trading) But if there is an option of Ultra bright view for 1680x1050 I would have pick that up over brightview 1680x1050.

Wonder why they dont make that option avaliable :(

I too might have gone Ultra Brightview 1680x1050 had they offered it. As it sits, I can have multiple windows running, and I love it. Same res on my 20" wide desktop lcd, don't think I could have lived with the 1440x900 screen size..

Anybody want's to switch lcd's? I have a regular brightview 1440x900 no scratch no dead pixels, and am looking for a Ultra brightview (dual lamp) 1440x900. If so emailme. I can put also an extra $ towards the switch :). Sami.

FYI: Besides the LCD, the lid /housing is differant, an differant lamp ballast is needed plus the 2nd lamp itself.

Ok... point is alot of people don't know they need more parts than the screen..

Good luck on the switch, post back any finding/problems you may run across... Should be a simple case of swapping the entire lcd lid from one unit to the other...

I finally found a dv8000 and it seems to have the ultra brightview on it. I put the two laptops near each other and the new one seems to have a slightly brighter lcd. How can I positively know if it has ultra brightivew or less without having to open the lcd cover to check for the dual lamp? I am going to do the switch anyways. I am adding a picture hope it can show differences. Thanks for the help.

    Sami.

P.S. if it can help, I just got in a dv9000 with the dual lamp ultrabright view and it outshines the suspected dv8000 with dual lamp. I am going to add that picture too to help.

Forgot to specify, the one with suspected dual lamp is the laptop on the left hand side in the first picture(my original laptop on the right), and in the second picture from the left its my new baby dv9000 with dual lamp ultra brightview, middle dv8000 w/suspected dual lamp, right dv8000 (my original).
