yes, cant believe it !! Because mine is coming this friday I believe.

I am thinking of returning it when it comes.. I know 7600 is 128bit, but is the performance a huge difference from 7400 (64bit) ?

I price out another laptop from costco.com and the new system with everything same except 7600 over 7400 is actually 100 dollars CHEAPER !!

pretty sure I will be taking it back to local costco right now .. I think.

The performance difference is quite significant I believe, especially when playing newer games like FEAR, CoD2, etc.

Now if they'd just offer a 7800/7900 with it...even if the option were $200 more than the 7600 it would still be a good deal and make this a viable gamer's alternative to the Dell E1705. In my opinion the HP looks better too, but unless HP comes up with this option soon (which I highly doubt), looks like I'm going the way of the E1705.

    woot!! :D

Totally awesome. Any news of a possible DV8000 w/ Go 7600 model here in Canada?

Yeah.. I'm glad I didn't go out and get the DV8000. I'd easily pay a few hundred more for the Go 7600.

A sad day for original dv8000t owners :( to bad the Grphics card was onboard... it would have been nice to just buy the card and slide a new one in...

The 7400 isn't outdated, it was released in January...4 months ago at the same time as the 7600 & 7800. But it's intended for "thin & light notebooks" and the Pavillion 8000 series is anything but thin & light.. it's the perfect platform for a more aggressive board like the 7600. Bravo HP.

my 8000t just arrived and I must say aside from the fact it is 7400, everything is beautiful. I really do not want to return it but the fact that all of you say 7600 is way better makes me think I better exchange it and get the best bang for my dollars.

do that. But before that, call, talk to the managers - they should offer you some sort of a refund instead of a return, so maybe they would offer you enough to make your dv8000t lappy cheap enough to keep!!

    keep us updated!

I ordered thru Costco.com so I would just walk in and return it. Get credits back and reorder it. I think even if i was offer 200 dollars to keep current laptop, I would turn it down... Reason is, I have priced out the exact system again at costco, and for some reason, it is 100 dollars cheaper AND is with 7600!

BTW I just noticed the memory speed is 333mhz ddr2 pc5300.(2 gigs) is that slow ? compare to those 667 mhz ones I mean.

I also noticed the prices went down in general for the dv8000t -- by all means you should return the notebook you just got and pick up the new model - the 7600 will make a huge difference in gaming, plus it's a cheaper notebook to boot!

how much better is the 7600 when compared to 7400? I am, like, completely devastated, please make me feel good... :( How does the 7400 compare with my ex. zd7000's FX 5700? And my girldfriend's x700?

i don't know about the fx 5700, but the 7400 does not perform as well as the x700. the 7600go probably performs around 30-40% better (this is just an estimate).

hmmmmm....so is the 7600 worth waiting (i live in Canada) an unknown amount of time to be released?.....i thought the 7400 was a decent card but if the 7600 is much much better, i might just wait or get a relative to get it for me and bring it up for me...

you can think of the 7600go as performing similarly to the x1600. the x1600/7600 can play newer games on mid-high settings, while the 7400go will play games on low-mid settings.

And an added bonus the 3rd one has a 7600 in it !!! and there was an extra 150 dollars off because of some special :p

yea, well the DV8000T now seems to be a 100 dollars cheaper because instead of having the usual $50 instant rebate, it is now $150, which well explains the reasons why ;)

Do you have to pay for return shipping?

the upgrade change was made 3 or 4 days ago.

I have not return the laptop yet because I am waiting for dell e1705 to arrive so I can compare it side by side. (mainly to compare LCD) This dv8000t I received has * incredible* lcd.. no light leakage what so ever, zero dead pixil, it is a perfect screen! After that comparison is done, I will take it back to my local costco warehouse and get the 7600 upgrade. (instead of ship it back)

Overall this dv8000t laptop has really impress me.. way way way beyond expectation~ If not for the recent change in v card, no way I send it back. why couldnt HP just surprise the customer by upgrading the v card for recent orders :( such hassle to take back and reorder and wait 2 weeks again :(

Call HP Customer Service. They'll probably tell you to refuse the shipment from FedEx. You won't have to pay return shipping--however, they will not refund you the shipping charges for having the notebook sent in the first place (so you'll just be refunded for the cost of the notebook + sales tax).

From what I can tell, though it's worth it because the dv8000t w/ 7600 is actually cheaper than the dv8000t w/ 7400. You'll still be making out in the deal.

Smart, smart move. What kind of options did you select for the Dell? If you're into gaming then the e1705 has much better video card options, even better than the revised 8000t w/7600.

You are right, however, about the dv8000t screen. It is absoultely gorgeous to look at :D

    dell unit is t2500, 2 gig 667mhz ram, 100 gig 7200 hd , UXGA lcd, 7900gs.
The laptop basically acts as my second system.(also a backup system) Recently my Main trading setup died intraday due to a power supply burnt out and I had a lot of open positions......which was a brutal situation to be in.

I do play some games on side but what cause me to look into Dell is the
UXGA resolution (1920x 1200 ). The bigger resolution is nice because I am a full time Stock trader. Bigger resolution lets me monitor more stocks intraday. The dell unit is 300 $$ more than what HP cost me. Each laptop has some advantages tho..

    Hp...
full size keyboard, love number pad as I use it a lot during the day.
    200 gig storage(5400rpm)
    t2600 cpu.
cpuz says the ram at 333MHZ ?!
    nice LightScribe technology.
    Mobile Remote Control

    Dell...
    High resolution display,
DVI port (great with my lcds)
    fast ram 667MHZ
faster HD but 100 gig less space
    t2500 cpu instead of t2600
    keyboard lacks number pad.

Just waiting for dell unit to arrive to check out the lcd. dv8000t's lcd is stunning!

I've been googling the web, so far haplessly, trying to find a good review of 7600go. any suggestions?

More importantly, are there any overheating issues with dv8000t while gaming? how many fans does it have? I own dv4000 with x700, and even with considerable underclocking, it is still overheating.

Well I am having it shipped to a friends house in Indiana since I will by flying there to go visit him for a week. I actually did not pay for shipping because they offered Free Shipping with my purchase. The reason I shipped it there was because in case there was some delay and my dv8000t came to my house in California when I would be gone. Also, the tax is less there and I did not have to pay the additional $8 CA Environmental Fee.

Btw, I believe they can do a price adjustment for me and credit back $150 on to my card because from what I read on the HP site they can do that as long as it is not a Mail-In Rebate and is within 30 days of receiving the order.

But my friend has the same notebook which he got over a month ago and he claims that it plays games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Doom 3 pretty well with graphics settings at medium to medium high. If I open up and use the DV8000t and test it out, will HP gladly accept the return?

I feel a bit ripped off about this silly 7600 graphics card issue. Im just wondering if returning it and gettting a new one with the updated graphics card is really worth the hassle, plus spending about $20 more for CA tax and $8 CA Environmental Fee (since I will be back from my vacation).

pkd, as far as a review of the go 7600, I would say just check out the graphics card sticky at the top of the gaming forum written by ChazMan. It outlines how the card performs...bottom line, it's a good board.

As far as cooling, the dv8000t cools very efficiently. My current machine has the 7400 in it, but I can play NFS:MW, Tiger Woods PGA'05 & Rome:TW for 7-8 hours straight at work with no coolpad under my notebook and my GPU & CPU never breaks 65c.

I owned a Compaq v4000t which is basically the same machine you have except the Compaq version. I had exactly the same heat issues you have. I had to underclock my x700 substantially to keep ACPI from underclocking my processor due to heat. It eventually fried something in the video board which caused my screen to go black after gaming for 20 min or so and I ended up sending it to service 3 times. They never could get it fixed because they kept replacing things that had nothing to do with the problem (processor replaced twice ((there was nothing wrong with the processor)), bios updated twice ((it was already up-to-date)). Anyway, I'm getting off on a rant. The v4000t and dv4000t have horrible cooling solutions. The DV8000t cools SO much more efficiently. I don't really have a bad thing to say about mine other than it's big & heavy, but I knew that before I got it. It will be perfect once I have my Go 7600 version.

I also looked around for some actual gaming benchmarks for the 7600 Go but could not find any :(.

That said, I would think the 7600 Go is a substantially more powerful part if only due to the 128 bit memory bandwidth as opposed to 64 bit on the 7400 Go. The graphics comparison chart on this website also mentions the 7600 Go as the equivalent of an x1600, which has been getting ~2500 to 3500 3dMark05 scores. The 7400 gets around 2000 out of the box.

If it's worth the hassle -- well that's up to you. If you're into gaming on your laptop at all I would think it's a no-brainer considering the relative monetary cost of exchanging it (at least from what I've configured on the HP site). But then agin you have to consider possible time restraints that you may have, and your actual gaming needs.

If it were me, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately my exchange period came and went about a month ago.

thank you very much for your answer :) What I'm concerned about is that I'm going to have to play cat and mouse game with HP. Here is the update, I've called HP and the lady said, send it to us and we're going to replace whatever is faulty. But, the cooling solution is good for nothing :( Now, the funny part, she suggested getting more RAM from HP

Disclaimer: I am supplying this info to help you out with the cooling problem not as an in-your-face my machine-is-better-than-yours statement.

That's really strange. I have one of the very first DV4000 with X700 (128MB). It came in the first batch shipped to the US (I remember all of us on this forum tracked the shipments from China).

I have never had an overheating problem.

I have the P-M 2.0GHz. I have 256MB HP RAM and 1GB Kingston value. I have the 6 cell battery and the DVD-RW combo drive.

One thing I opted for to keep the machine cooler was the 4200rpm 80GB HDD.

    I use Notebook Hardware Control 1.9 Beta 03 (15X multiplier = 1.148V). I have the X700 set at 357.75/330.75MHz stock.

When I originally used the machine, it would get to 75-80C at load but when undervolted it stays around 60-65C max. If I am going to game I set the machine of the surface (usually with a cakerack) and it makes a huge difference. At idle the temps drop from 45 to 37C when using the rack and it stays cool when gaming ~65C max.

Also, check against these settings that I posted before:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=28692

I hope this helps, if not drop me a PM.

Hey Birdmangsr how long did it take for the entire return process to be completed? Is there free return shipping? Does it have to go back to China?

Well the thing is that I probably will be gaming on my laptop more since my Dell desktop which I bought 3 years ago has a old nVidia 64MB MX graphics card. It may be a good idea to return the dv8000t for a 7600 graphics card since you cannot change and upgrade it like a desktop and also it is within the return period.

I just hope that HP offers the same instant rebates when I get another one.

return shipping for me has been free both times. They send a printable label to my email address and then i print it out, and ship it back in my original packaging. And no the return facility is in Tennese(sp).

And yes you should get the current 150 rebate also, its automatic in their system and they gave it to me also.

Is the $150 rebate included in the costco price or do you have to order through HP directly?

Every time I decide to wait a few days before ordering this laptop, there is either a price drop or a component improvement. :) Are there any significant improvements or discounts coming out on the dv8000t in the next couple weeks?

Birdman, or anyone else who has returned their DV8000t, when you ordered your laptop did you also get the HP PSC 1410 All-in-One Printer/Scanner? If you return your laptop, does doing so void the $80 Mail-In Rebate?

No, i didnt get the free printer with mine, I already have a printer at my house so i didnt bother with it. I would imagine you would have to resend in the rebate with the new computer serial number and what not.

Before i returned my first laptop ( the one they put the wrong drive in) i had already send in my rebate, and the guy told me that they wouldnt have recieved it yet, and to just send in a new rebate submission when i got the new one. i would imagine you would do the same.

When they come out with the Turion X2 version (whenever that will be), they'd better. (Please, please HP give us the 7900GS!) TX2's require new motherboards so they have the opportunity to fix the GPU shortcoming.

Well got the new laptop today and yes it has the go 7600 in it. But now I have to find drivers that work for it. I did a fresh install of the OS and the go 7600 drivers will not install when i downloaded them and ran them. I tried to install the go 7400 version from the hp website, and they install and see it as a go 7600 but, the screen goes all crazy and i had to restore back to before i install the drivers.... any suggestions?

hey can someone possible post screen shots of their fully expanded device manager? I have one thing that doesnt have drivers installed for it and i cant figure out what it is. Its device ID is ACPI \ HPQ0006 \ 2&DABA3FF&0.

Any help would be appreciated. It says that the device is not configured properly and there are no drivers installed. It says its located on the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System

    Thanks

    Dan

    A question:

althought there are many discussion that upgrading Video Card in notebook is
impossible even though they are PCI-Express type...

But something just cross my mind.

Since this is an upgrade made by HP for all new DV8000t notebook. Wouldn't it be possible for us to Order just the VideoCard and request HP to change it for us on our existing DV8000t? Bearing the fact that the Existing GeForce 7400 might need to be discarded...

I do think that the socket and the cooling part should well fit our exisitng DV8000t. Unless the MotherBoard is totally diffrent one in use...

    - So what do think, Possible?
    - Anyway, how much better would the new GeForce 7600 be compare to the existing GeForce 7400?
    - Would it be worth the money to upgrade? [If Upgrading is an option]

    Thanks...
