Another thing... I have just been to The HP Website on the Drive & Software download....

the thing is that now all the Bios are new version with support for the GeForce 7600... !!!

So I really think, If we can get our hand on the GeForce 7600 then for sure we can use in our notebook,.... as the Bios support it!

Yes, the System board is exactly the same, it just basically comes with a go 7600 now. My girlfriend has the exact same system as me except she has the 7400 and in the System menu, the System board ID's are the same. So yes you probably could get a 7600 go put in, but not sure how it is integrated into the board or whatever.

Thats not possible.. the history of HP as to how they build their laptops.. is that everything is build into the board... even other manufactures do this..

the whole board has to be replaced if you want that 7600 go

if you want a laptop with upgradable graphics look into laptops that cost 2000 USD and up

even at that.. there is not much upgrade path..

this is one of the reasons why you can buy this DV8000T at that price.. not much upgrades besides the HD,and memory/dvd drive

Got my 8000t with Go 7600 in it a couple days ago. I got a 3550 in 3dmark05 right out of the box. Thats with the 84.25 driver from www.laptopvideo2go.com. It looks like they underclocked the memory. With a format & fresh install and a bit of a memory overclock, a 3700+ score should be easily do-able.

Hey wintery when you did a fresh install on your system, did you get any " Unknown devices" in your device manager after you installed all the drivers? I also have a newer dv8000t with the go 7600 and got one after i did a fresh install.

    Let me know

    Thanks

    Dan

Only found device on mine is the bluetooth device which I have left uninstalled for now as the software is buggy. I'm really pretty dissatisfied with my new 8000, there is a ton of light leakage from both the left and right side of the screen where the seams aren't tight enough...my dv8280us, which uses the exact same case, has no light leakage what-so-ever. And I'm still trying to find a video driver that suits it.

    Thanks

Sure, I can do that later this evening. Do you have light leakage similar to my problem? If you can get your notebook to a dark room and look at the seams in the screen case to the left & right. I'm curious to know if this is a common problem and no big deal or if I need to send it in.

Update on this machine. So far I've found it impossible to overclock the video card. If you use a 3rd party driver, it causes all kinds of glitches and screen oddities besides the fact that performance actually drops..and if you use default driver from HP, the new settings won't stay when you set new frequencies when overclocking. They always revert back.

I wonder if flashing to an earlier bios would solve the problem. I know you can go to the HP.com and download the previous version of drivers or bios...I'm tempted to flash to the older bios and see if that fixes the problem. Probobly be a few days before I can fool with it though.

I noticed this when updating to the latest drivers on HP's website. I had to roll back my drivers to the preinstalled ones to get OCing back.

Winterymix, when you say 3rd party drivers, I'm assuming you mean Nvidia's own drivers?

Yeah, actually I got them from laptopvideo2go. Nothing I've tried so far works quite right except the default HP drivers. I tried rolling back to the older HP driver for the 7400 that allowed overclocking, but it causes a major graphics crash when installing. I'm sure there's a way around this. I'm just not sure if it's in the driver or the bios or both.

Winterymix, I thought this was just me.

I'm also using laptopvideo2go.com's nVidia driver's 91.28, and I used the automatic overclock and its set on 465/420. And I'm getting all kinda glitches (though my GPU is running VERY cool).

I hope someone will find a workaround for this, for now,, I guess I'll put it back to the stock 450/380 speeds.

Wow, I just gave the 84.54's a chance (the one off HP's website).

These drivers are GREAT for our card. The 91.28's from laptop2video, I was having all sorts of problems. These are running great and our making my computer run much more smoother.

I'm going to stick to HP's drivers until the 90 series drivers become official.

A better option is to use this free program to get data about your hardware:

    Unknown Device Identifier 5.02

    Freeware
Unknown Device Identifier enables you to identify the yellow question mark labeled Unknown Devices in Device Manager. And reports you a detailed summary for the manufacturer name, OEM name, device type, device model and even the exact name of the unknown devices. With the collected information, you might contact your hardware manufacturer for support or search the Internet for the corresponding driver with a simple click. With this utility, you might immediately convert your unidentified unknown devices into identified known devices and find proper driver on the Internet and contact the hardware device manufacturer or vender. Known devices recognized by Microsoft Windows will also be analyzed independent of the operating system.

They need to add a DVI port with HDCP so you can hook the unit up to a big screen TV.

    HP.. are you "listening"?

Have you installed ALL the Service packs?

After I did a fresh install I had a few devices missing drivers until I installed the SP's.

    RE: device ID is ACPI \ HPQ0006 \ 2&DABA3FF&0.

Just did a Google Search for the HPQ0006 part of device listing

Came up as "Quick Lanch Buttons"

I'd go to HP download and install the offical SP for the QuickLanch Buttons.

Yes i installed all of the service packs from hp, ( This is the 3rd dv8000 I have had) I did this SAME exact thing with my 2nd dv8000t with the go 7400, and did a fresh install with the disk i got with it and did all the service packs, and no unknown devices. I did the same exact thing with this computer and installed all of the serive packs ( yes quick laugh buttons are installed) and i still have an unknown device and none of these so called unknown device identifiers are worth a ****, because they tell me nothing... my quest continues...

To be fair to the programers of the unknown device identifiers these machines are new to market.

Still think that HPQ0006 has something to do with the QuickPlay, QuickLanch buttons.

    RE: device ID is ACPI \ HPQ0006 \ 2&DABA3FF&0.

    Birdmangsr,
One more thought.... You did make a copy of the C:\SwSetup folder right? Maybe you can search thru there and find the id string in one of the setup files.

Since you didn't have this problem on the other machines (with the 7400) something has changed, which means it's going to be a while before you see an updated SP that properly addresses your problem more than likely.

HP seems to "drag" in getting SP's up on their site so if it was "me" I'd do some hunting around in those setup files.

I have that same problem with the Unknown Device.

WeAreNotAlone is right, I put wat showed up in the Device ID and it brought up Quick Launch buttons , however, it did not remove the Unknown Device from Devicce Manager.

Oh well, I don't relaly care, I got all the drivers install and the system is running great.

I bet it will take HP about 2 or 3 months to get the updated SP(s) posted. Take being said I'd think the file that's needed should be in the C:\SwSetup folder.

That you could search thru there and find the id string in one of the setup files.

One more thought, it may be a case that a needed driver /SP needed to be installed "first" so the SP for this unkown device could be found.

For those of you with the HP dv8000t with the 7600..

How about posting some benchmarks.... your impressions.

Maybe your suggestions on improvements in case HP runs across this thread?

    Improvements like:

DVI output.... with HDCP embedded in the signal !!!!...

HDCP is needed if you want to hook it up to a big screen tv, projector in most cases these days.
    DVI +HDCP =HDMI http://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/HDTV_12.asp

    What is HDCP?

HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of intercepting digital data midstream between the source to the display. The format designed by Intel and licensed by Digital Content Protection, LLC using an authentication and key exchange procedure before video and audio is presented.

Products compatible with the HDCP scheme such as DVD players, satellite and cable HDTV set-top-boxes, as well as few entertainment PCs requires a secure connection to a compliant display, the process often described as "the handshake". Due to the increase in manufacturers employing HDCP in their equipment, it is highly recommended that any HDTV (and output device!) you purchase is compatible.

    * * * *

Translation to the above is without the "handshake" (The HDCP signal) there is no "authentication and key exchange procedure and NO video and audio is presented."

    HP

If you're "listening"... on the next dv8000t... put a 7900GS or better GPU in it.. with DVI output.. with HDCP... so you can hook up the laptop to a big screen TV, projector for presentations.

Think of all the exposure... increased sales you'd get!!!

Hey, what kind of laptop is that?... Why it's an HP...

WOW, Amazing picture on that big screen, projector, plasma it has!!!!..... The 30 people at that (1) presentation said after the meeting...... I'm going to get one of those!!!!!

Nevermind... I found almost all devices using a tool that helps you find unknown devices

the ethernet is an intel chipset pro ethernet card

only have one device under exclamation which is HID device
