    Now, I know there is another thread about this but I can't find it.

    What type of RAM does the DV8000z series take?

    Also, does anyone know if the DV8120CA comes with 2 x 256 or 1 x 512? If not, I can always just take a look myself but I figured that I'd try asking here first.

    Thanks.

    PC2700 or PC3200 DDR RAM. I recommend Crucial PC3200, preferably 1GB SODIMMs. I have two in my dv8125nr.

    I'd assume that HP uses a pair of 256MB sticks in the dv8120ca, same as they did in mine. (Now on eBay, if anybody wants one :D).

    Check http://www.crucial.com/index.asp for type.

    On the 512 , etc being supplied on (1) stick

    (2 total slots being in the computer)

    Mfg's will usually put in two 256 as they're cheaper for them, plus when it comes time to "upgrade" you have to throw away at least (1) of the chips... and both if you're running DDR-2 ram in which you want both chips "matched", the same size....

    That's what I figured. Thanks.

    I'm actually thinking of picking up some seriously discounted (almost half off) Kingston RAM, either PC2700 or PC3200.

    So, I'm going to get a Crucial PC3200 1GB DDR SODIMM stick.

    I'm assuming that keeping in one of the 256MB 333MHz sticks probably isn't the best idea?

    If it's not DDR-2 ram they can be mixed and matched. Better though if the speeds match. If not both will run at the speed of the slower chip.

    DV8000z =DDR
    DV8000t =DDR-2
