Was not going to get another 17 inch notebook becaus eI wanted more portability but because of my very poor eye sight am now almost willing to trade portability for a very bright clear screen like the LultraBrite. If I could find something similar in a 15.4 or 15 form factor, I might consider that.

My question is, does anyone know brightness and contrast specs for this screen? I need high contrast as much or more that just high brightness. I had considered getting a 15.4 notebook with a screen that had 300.1 contrast but is the DV8000t UltraBrite screen better than that? I would appreciate anyone helping me if you can and thanks.

I dont know about the Ultrabrightview screen, but the regular Brightview WXGA+ and WSXGA+ according to the service manual are supposed to have a contrast ratio of 200:1.

Check out either some of the high end Fujitsu, Sony's or the Toshiba Qosmio's. They generally tend to have higher contrast rations. Toshiba claim a contrast ratio of 450:1 for their screens used in the Qosmio series.
