We are planning to sell our old DV8120ca with Xp Home SP2 all updates, latest BIOS, etc, etc....or pass it along to a family member since we have a new laptop.
It runs great. (the old one).
Its a Turion 2.0Ghz and 2GB RAM.
But the hibernate issue I found is something when it was new. Now and again the laptop would not boot up, totally nothing, even on AC, and this was after it had been shut down properly the day before. But only did it now and again.
The only way to get it to go again was remove battery, unplug the AC and hold the power button in for a minute to drain capacitors. Then put the battery back and it booted fine.
I actually exchanged it for a new one, same model, that week. Same issue.
After a couple weeks I turned Hibernate off in Power options. It never ever gave me this problem again. Boots every time since. I never used hibernate anyway. I always shut down when done with it.
Question is, does this issue sound familiar to anyone?, and if anyone knows- was there a fix? update? I assume I would have had the update if there was one as its up to date. Just I have to enable hibernate again and to turn it on and off for a few days to see if its fixed, we have it packed away now though.
Thought I'd quickly ask here if someone knows what I am on about.
We don't like to pass it along and then someone enables hibernation and it does it again, maybe the person actually wants to use hibernate and then they can't.... it'll come back to haunt me!

I believe I've heard this issue before... I'm not sure what is exactly is to blame for this issue, but it may have to do with the BIOS... Try the following;
At the HP splash screan press F10 to get into your BIOS options menu.
Next, see if you can find and option labeled "SATA Native"...
If it is in there either change it from enabled to disabled, and vice versa...
Once you've done that press the right arrow till you get to the Exit menu... Select 'Exit and save'
Now see if the issue persists...
