Hey guys, I successfully did the Clean Vista install on one of my desktops which is was also manufactured by HP.

I'm about to do it now to my laptop, my questions are...

Note: I'm going to do a Vista 386 to Vista x64

    1. I've read that there's some hp softwares that are needed for some of the laptop's buttons to function. Since my DV9000 has two hdds, I already copied the SwSetup directory to the other drive. My questions are...would all of them work on a x64? Like QuickPlay? Os is there a x64 version of QuickPlay? Would installing QuickPlay enable the HP webcam?

    2. What else do I have to do for HP laptops to ensure a successful clean install of Vista x64. (I already did this on my desktop so I've already done the basics). Just looking for stuff that I have to remember because it's a laptop.

Once Vista is installed, I'll install Fedora. Any Vista/Linux users here? :p

Will everything work fine if I go from 32 to 64 on the laptop? Driver wise?

Hey v3loc1ty2.0, did everything work as far as buttons on your linux distros? Wireless? Etc?

I'm mostly in Linux unless I'm feeling nostalgic. We got lots of Linux users here. We even have a Linux forum.

Once you have saved the swsetup folder, go to HP's site and download the 64bit drivers for your system. Most of the driver packages and software are actually the same for 32 and 64 bit, and the installer can figure it out and install the correct driver. For stuff like quickplay, I think it's only 32bit, but it will work on 64bit just fine.

The only real driver issues you might run into are drivers for other devices, like PDAs, printers, etc... So if you have any of those things, make sure to check the sites for drivers.

Ooh, thanks. Fedora Core 8 hates the wireless adapter.

OpenSUSE likes HP. :p If someone got his FC 8 to work on a 4695 wireless, let me know please!

I just installed Vista Home Premium x64. Just make sure you pull the x64 version of the drivers from the HP site. As was previously posted Quickplay and most of the other software is 32 bit emulated on x64. Everything is working fine for me but be warned if you use media center, you cant select a 3rd party DVD decoder
(i.e. nVidia Purevideo, PowerDVD or WinDVD) you're stuck with the built in microsoft decoders.

Did you do a clean install? You need to install the realtek audio drivers.
