DV9000 or DV6000 Overheating? How to Patch the BIOS ACPI DSDT

If your DV9000 or DV6000 is overheating and you want to increase the fan speed with a BIOS patch then here is the solution. It took me several months searching for this so I’m trying to spread the word that there is a way to patch the BIOS ACPI DSDT to increase the fan speed. After reflowing my NVIDIA BGA assembly I made this patch so now I’m not worried that my computer is going to overheat again. My GPU stays between 49C and 58C. There are other sites that show how to do this for other computers as well.

 

If it's overheating then the fan won't help, you need to address the cause not just "patch" it. And the longevity of a reflow doesn't depend on the maximum temperature that the chip is operated at.

My DV9000's fan runs at barely audible speeds under normal load (web browsing and IM). CPU temperature is 50-55C (undervolted and managed with RMClock), but GPU is at 64C since i was forced to turn off powermizer coz it was interfering with my audio. I'm not the first owner of this laptop and i've had it for an year, and did just about everything on it (i even play GTAIV on it, and when gaming the 8400M is overclocked as far as it'll go). Never reflowed (though i did it on other people's laptops). Yet it refuses to die.

The one thing you have to remember is - avoid sudden temperature changes, especially don't power your laptop up outside if it's freezing. Also, if you had it reflowed, you should also consider changing that silly thermal pad with an aluminum or copper shim + quality thermal paste. It helps a lot.

 

I have the same dv9000 (dv9260nr), motherboard, and bios listed but still can't get the dsdt.aml????

 

dandas, Thanks for contacting my on my blog. Glad you got things working.
I have found that it is not enough to just increase the fan speed if you want your computer to last a long time. I think it is also important to increase circulation space under the laptop by using a laptop cooling stand. I have my laptop placed on top of 2 wood planks that are about half inch high which lowers the temperature an additional 4C to 6C.
I should mention many DV9000 owners have this patch working that are running either Vista or Windows 7 but I'm not sure yet if anyone has it working with XP.


Th3_uN1Qu3, Did you read my blog? The patch is only a part of the article. The rest of the article is what you say "addressing the cause" and talks about ways to increase airflow.
Patching the ACPI DSDT fan control to properly respond to increasing heat does matter and is very important.
Actually I don't think your DV9000 computer is the same as the rest of us because you say "i was forced to turn off powermizer coz it was interfering with my audio". Our issue is that our fans don't increase in speed when the GPU gets hot. It is confusing that the same HP DV9000 model computer are not all alike but I have read articals from other DV9000 owners that have this noise issue and want to slow the fan because it is making a strange buzzing sound.
