So I've managed to destroy the DC jack on my DV9009us laptop. Took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and the guy told me it would cost over $400 to fix and isn't worth it. He then tried to sell me a new one.

How difficult would it be to replace on my own? I'm pretty sure I found the part on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-DV9000-origi...ryZ31534QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm pretty handy and have added RAM and a video card in a desktop before but have never taken apart a laptop.

    Any suggestions??

Those fools at BB are morons.

The DV9X00 series has a "plug on" power connector. Most other systems have the power connector soldered on. Much easier than solder.

Assuming the DC jack is really the problem then your in luck. A broken jack is NOT worth over $400, he is obviously trying to sucker you

Its not hard but its not easy to do either, but if you read & follow instructions well then nothing should go wrong

Here is the service manual, study it carefully before attempting it.

Never trust Best Buy they are the biggest scammers known to man. In Canada there was a tv show and they reviewed "Geek Squad" they found them to be liers and scammers and kept on charing the fee to fix a computer. The tv show reporters ended up going to a guy who fixes laptops for way less then what geek squad wanted to charge.
