Like, the top cover of the lcd where the security lock if i had one would go. The laptop still works I just cant uh.. close it or anything, seems i am not the only one that had this problem http://www.notebookhingecrack.com/ Just the top plastics popped off in that corner the screen isn't effected.
Is there like a way to completely remove it or I really have no idea what I can do about this since it's such an old notebook now I'm past the warrenty (yeah why does it seem like alot of things lately are designed to do things like this AFTER warentys expire)![]()
Anyone else want to share their experience?

If you call HP their covered for repair, or maybe you'll get lucky as I did, and recieve a DV7T replacement! Call regular tech support, and then call the case mgr line listed on that page you posted link for....good luck and keep us posted! -
Problems are inevitable.
HP Quality Case Managers usually allow free repair due the service enhancement. Call 1 877 917 4380 Extension 94. Tell them you're a first time caller and was experiencing a problem that only a case manager could rectify. -
Wow that is a pretty significant upgrade they gave you!
I mean though that happening wouldn't be all a bad thing, the laptop itself other then this small hinge issue has never really had any other major problems (maybe at times getting a tad hot after awhile playing Team Fortress 2) and has served me well being my first laptop.
Tried their online chat and figures nothing really accomplished here other than her offering to give me the part number to order a replacement through their parts store for around 50-60 dollars (ha yeah right).
Phone tech support adventures are next. -
Tried reg support now, they give me that same bs the others got with basically "you are out of warenty screw you pay like 300 dollars to fix it" Got my call escalated so within 48 hours a case manager is supposed to call me back. Sigh. This is rediculous for such a small (but significant since i cant close it) defect that isnt even my fault.
It is still safe for me to use this computer since it's only basicaly plastic thats the problem right? I did tape the side pieces together some as some precaution but like i said I just cant close it. -
Stick to your guns, and when they call make sure you give all the details, explain about the heat etc. but keep a calm cool head, and be on point with things, it ill work out in your favor!
