    Hello :)

I have a DV9000 series laptop, and am very happy with it, but i have a couple of queries here, that i was hoping some of the boffins could answer.

    1. I use speedfan etc, to monitor my laptop, my first HD temp is around 50 degs. (160Gb WD Scorpio), and my second HD (250Gb Samsung) is around 41 degs is this normal? my primary drive seems kinda hot to me ...

    2. again using speed fan, i can see that the Gforce Go7600 gets up to around 76 degs, and when i am encodeing x.264 video, the CPU temp hits around 72 degs, again, this seems very high! what do you think?

    3. My Laptop has a C2DuoT5600 @ 1.86Ghz, and an Nvidia GeForce Go7600. i i have access to a spare board from a newer laptop of the same series, with a C2Duo @2.2Ghz, and an Nvidia GeForce 8600GS.

What would be faster? swapping over the board with CPU? or putting the CPU into my existing board with the Go7600? i suppose i am asking, what is the faster GPU of the two?

    4. is there anyway to upgrade the fan or HS on the CPU?

sorry for so many questions on a first post !!

    :)

    1) Primary drive is hotter because it is being used more than your secondary.

    2) 76c is in the safe range. Nothing to worry about. If it starts going over 85c then you worry.

    3) The spare board would be alot faster both CPU and GPU wise.

    4) No way to upgrade the HSF.

    Anymore questions?

Well with your current setup CPU, i suggest upgrading the RAM first. Ram will improve the performance better than a newer CPU especially if your using Vista

Here are your options (model/clockspeed/L2 cache/FSB):
    Core 2 Duo T7200 2000 4096 667
    Core 2 Duo T7400 2166 4096 667
    Core 2 Duo T7600 2333 4096 667

To be honest, for the price of these upgrades its not worth. You will only notice a minimal difference between them. The T5600 is enough power.

Upgrade your RAM and HDD first.

RAM has been upgraded to 3Gb already, wouldnt do more as using XP, wouldnt touch Vista with a bargepole, both 80Gb drives have been swapped out already, as mentioned in first post.

The cost of the C2Duo-M i can get really cheap, if i place an internal order through the parts store.

    what the ? .....

all i said was i wasnt a big fan of vista, it wasnt derogatory, or nasty, or personal, or aimed at anyone in particular, the post wasnt nasty in how it was worded or inferred.

Most people post on these boards for advice or to sound out opinions .... am i not allowed to do that?

Harpreet was just telling you that comments like that are not needed since nobody asked you to install Vista and those kinds of comments cause problems. Comments like that have caused threads to go off topic or degrade quickly(seriously...many XP v. Vista threads/topics get closed). If you want to discuss it further, send me a PM(Private Message).

    @Back on topic:
I agree with Flipfire's recommendations. Also the CPU in the Dv9500T(w/8600m GS) wont work in your current dv9000T because they use different sockets

Also, even though those temps are normal, you might want to take a look at the cooling guide(using a cooling pad/mat and/or cleaning out the vents/fans of dusts may reduce temps a little or prevent the laptop from overheating when doing intensive stuff.

You made Vista sound like it had a disease. Its not all that bad.
