    Does anyone an issue with:
    - dropping a couple of 2GB SODIMMs (when they come down in price)
    - Getting a couple 7200 Spin drives from Newegg and using them instead of a single 5400 (as ordered)

Be careful about ordering with 1 HDD, and putting in 2. HP most likely will not include a 2nd HDD mounting bracket if you order 1 HDD...

    That is probably true.
I will check when/if I call and if what you say if true, I will order the cheapest RAID config and get a pair of 7200 drives from newegg.

Upgrading the RAM shouldnt force any issues, but I have to agree with MGS's suggestion. HP didnt include the mounting brackets for the dv8000 and the brackets were only sold with the hard disk, so yoo would be forced to buy the HDD from HP an pay their exorbitant prices. I dont know if they have changed this with the dv9000, but to be on the safe side I would suggest ordering the cheapest dual hard drives and then upgrading them.

there is no difference between 5300 and 5400. they label the ram sticks like this:

    speed x 8 = PC ????. 667 * 8 = 5336. some round up (5400) others down (5300)
