I am soon to get the DV9000t as a replacement laptop. Ive noticed on here a couple complain about overheating. I was wondering if the others that have the system think its a great laptop or not. No one has really written a review on it. Ive asked on other forums and have been told its pretty much the same as the DV8000t other than a few minor changes. Sadly though I took the 512meg vid card option only to be told by someone its half shared bleh lol. Thanks in advance

I'm the guy with the one that overheated right out of the box. It was so bad I doubt it was a design flaw, and more of a build problem. As far as the video, unless their site is lying, it's 512 MB *dedicated*, not shared. To quote their site: "The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 with 512MB discrete video memory delivers best-in-class graphics and performance for gaming and video applications." (Discrete = "separate and distinct"; "An individual circuit component, complete in itself, such as a resistor, diode, capacitor or transistor. It is used as an individual and separable circuit element.")

I have the dv9000t and think it's a great laptop, and have not had any overheating issues. The 512 card is also NOT shared memory.

I know it says on the site dedicated but someone was trying to tell me it was wrong and such. Didnt seem like HP would lie about specs but then again who knows. It says est build date Is around the 27th

The one Im suppose to be getting is a 2.0ghz 100gig 7200rpm HD ultra brightview 512 meg vid card. only wanted 512 ram since i have 2gigs sitting here now. I was tickled when my case manager said the replacement was approved. should be an awesome system i wont have to change for a long time

Can't really compare to the 256. I can tell you in the couple of days playing with it I'm not complaining. Currently playing with Vista x64 and Aero, Flip3d, MCE, etc. all run very smoothly. In perspective, this is of course RC1 and beta nVidia drivers. I'm sure you'll be very happy and enjoy your new system!

I havn't seen anything past high 60's. Mind you, this was just with Vista putting demands on the GPU, and I've not had a chance to play any games yet.

Honestly I don't know if my numbers are good or bad. I did a quick search on google and it looks like over 90c is a concern. Also the Nvidia control panel has an high temp alert that is set at 110c.

I do know that the computer seems to run fine under heavy load, yes it blows hot air out the back, but it hasn't set my house on fire yet.

Compare that to my old Compaq 2500 laptop/porta-stove with an old Pentium 2.4g. It has 3 cooling fans. Very noisy, and runs very hot. The good news is it shot the scalding hot air out the left side, the bad news is ...I'm left handed.

My very first system that I got from HP wasa ZD8000. It ran very hot as well. Im almost glad HP couldnt get it fixed now that Im getting a pretty nice machine out of it. Too bad they just didnt give me the nice one to start with. The replacement I got from them was like 600 bucks cheaper than I originally paid. Even if it was a year ago when I got it, it still sucked for all the trouble I had with them trying to get it fixed. Hopefully Ill be able to call on the 27th and they will have a tracking number for me. Im excited to see how the 2ghz core 2 duo is with the 512 meg card.

Yep, that's what I have too, 2g cpu with the 7600 512m gpu. It really is a nice machine. Very fast. Mine shipped in 3 days tfrom China to Florida using the free shipping offer.

Hopefully you won't have the same headaches as me with the mini-me right hand shift key and the " don't wipe off anything close to" quick launch buttons. (Oh sure, you can wipe off that piece of dust, but you will have pressed 9 buttons faster than you can blink your eye  )

LOL I guess it depends on where that button sits if Ill have a problem with it or not. I am surprised though its not a full size key. I mean it boasts a full size keyboard and such. I dont see the point in putting a small shift key there. As for the buttons I guess Ill have to deal with it. I mean the machine itself should be awesome. Anyway according to the case manager its estimated build date is 26 Sep. So hopfully by the first.

I just purchased a dv900t and am also experiencing overheating problems. When I run cpu-intensive programs such as converting video files, the fan speed sequentially increases until the notebook crashes. This occurs with other programs, e.g. spybot, so I do not believe it is a software issue.

Can I ask what you did to solve this problem? I have not yet contacted HP, since it took me so long to install my programs and files, I am afraid that if I send it back for repair they will wipe the HD clean.

    Thanks for your help!

Well, the bad news is that I "resolved" the issue by returning it and getting an identically configured replacement. The good news is that the new one seems fine. If it's been less than 21 days, you're entitled to return it. My new one seemed to run a little hot at first too, but then settled down after a couple of days of use. I take this to mean that the thermal paste/pads had to melt, get "conditioned," whatever you want to call it. Whatever the case, the new one seems fine. In fact, the only time it seems to get really hot is when the hard drive is spinning a lot.

My GPU is the only thing that seems to run hot. It idles 59-61c and during gaming gets up to like 75c. Not as big of an increase as the old DV8000 I had but still pretty warm

As a follow-up, I ended up having to return my dv9000t to HP for repair. The good news is that it now works great with no overheating problems, and they did not reformat my HD. The bad news is that it took over a week for them to repair it (they said it was a "fan problem") and made a big, indelible scratch on the glossy black cover in the process.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the performance of the notebook, but am very disappointed with HP's build quality and technical support.
