I recently attempted to update my BIOS to the latest version of F16. After trying this it caused issues with my system and Vista wouldnt boot up. After doing a restore I redownloaded the previous version of F15 and flashed it again. Now my system acts like the BIOS is no longer there. Even though the flash program ran and shut down the system like it was suppose to. Does anyone know a way to install the BIOS from a floppy the way we use to do? There has to be a way to get it back on the system with no OS. HP says no and there is nothing they can do and since I bought a retail version of Vista they are saying they would have to charge me. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

Hi, what do you mean that the bios is not there? The computer doesnt boot? You dont have any more the 'press F10 to enter setup' option?

At power up it does nothing but beep. No P.O.S.T. no nothing. Almost like during the flash it erased the Eprom but never wrote the new BIOS to it.

why wud HP charge u? the bios has nothing to do with vista! its more like a hardware failure or software failure on their part that theyre trying to throw at you. Did you ask them whats the relation between Vista whatever flavour and a BIOS failure?? sounds like they jus wanna screw around wit ya to me

Only thing I can think of is to try put the notebook in recovery mode so that it will try to boot from a usb floppy. The floppy should be bootable (ok ..had to say it), contain the phoenix dos flash utility that can be found here http://www.unicore.com/techsupport/award/awardutils.htm and the image of the required bios from HP. The autoexec.bat batch file should have the command 'phlash16.exe bios.wph' in it.
For placing the pc in bios recovery mode, the only info I have for HP's is to follow the process in this thread, (which now I see you participated in probably before you got your current problem..) http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=103719#8

Because they are trying to say me installing retail Vista voids my software warranty. I told the damn chineese guy about 12 times Vista and BIOS has nothing to do with eachother. Im waiting on a call back from a case manager and Ill press the issue with that person when they finally get around to calling. As for the Image from HP I am not sure how Id get it on the floppy seeing as how the softpac you download is over 3m.

When you run the softpaq on an operating pc, it creates a folder called WINFLASH in your TEMP folder. In there you will find the required bios.wph file.

Actually you can even just extract the softpaq using WinRAR instead of running it. In the extract you will find your file. It is named 30BBF16.WPH

Tried getting the BIOS image file but it doesnt unzip the EXE file. Now if you can get me the image file for version F15 it would be appreciated. Ill attempt restoring it all if you can get it to me by some chance.

Let me know if somebody had success with this procedure, I have the same problem after flashing and the floppy doesn't work for me. HP says the only way to fix this is by replacing the mainboard, but I'm sure it's possible to do it with a floppy, just didn't find the right procedure yet!

Sad to say it did not work for me either. It reads the floppy drive for a bit the beeping changes a bit then nothing at all after that. So much for getting this stupid ass thing to work properly.

At least for me it looks like it's possible but have to follow a different procedure, as it also doesn't work for you... We keep on trying :)

I think we do need to use a different program to flash, as with the recovery disk mentioned before it's all about a 512k ROM and the DV9000 has a 1 Mb ROM...

Or maybe the procedure tries to make a backup of the BIOS and of course this doesn't work on a floppy and makes the procedure stop...

    More ideas are welcome!

No doubt. Sad HP doesnt seem willing to really help. I told them moments ago that if I didnt get a call back from a Case Manager within the next 24hrs I will be yet again writting the Board of Directors. I have done it before to get tihngs done and I will do it again. If all else fails I can call USAA who I have computer insurance with to get it replaced. To my understanding the insurance I pay for every month also covers BIOS failures. So my options are as of yet not expended. I do however know that I will NEVER own another HP because Im sick of the outsourcing igrnoant people working for them, their crappy programing, their lack of driver support and anything else Ill possibly remember later lol.
