    Hi,
I have a 4 month old cto dv9000t that has been overheating on me after a few hours of being on. Is this normal this is my first laptop and i just now that i can have my desktop on all day and nothing will happen to it. I live in Las Vegas so that may be the reason or it might be that it isnt getting enough air from the fan because it is on a flat surface. So to sum it up my laptop just shuts off on me after a few hours of work it happend when i was defragmenting upgrading to vista when i was doing a virus scan and even when i was just listening to music. What can i do it is really frustrating would an ilap help?

Check the temperature of the components, like the processor, hard disk and graphics card. Normally, they will cause a notebook to overheat and turn off. Use a program like NHC (Notebook Hardware Control) or Speedfan to check the temperature. Post back with the results.

You have identified 2 sources to alleviate heat, if you have determined it to be heat, then get a fan or elevate it so as to increase airflow.

Its likely that its the processor of graphics card, which is causing the system shut downs. Check the temperatures, and tell us what they are. Its likely that the notebook will have to be sent back to HP, as they will be the ones to repair it. If somebody else, besides them, opens the ntoebook, then the warranty can become void.

Alright so it is the processor because it just shut off on me when the temperature on the processor was 76C and to my understanding that is very high. So do i have to send it back to hp and if i do how long does it take for them to get everything fixed do they usually send you back the same computer or a refurbrished one.

after being on for a few hours or playing graphic heavy games like oblivion, my 9235nr usually goes up to 80c and still runs fine, although sometimes it is a little iffy on going into sleep mode afterwards.
