I had windows vista and xp as a dual boot to just sample it out and I removed vista completely and now with xp i cant get quickplay to start without going through windows, I remember when i first got it that you could start it without windows and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling quickplay and that didn't do anything. I never messed with the recovery partition and only resized my xp one to install vista at the time.

As long as you still have the quickplay partition, the problem is more than likely that Vista reconfigured MBR (master boot record). You would have to run recovery to get the Quickplay Direct settings corrected.
