I know the HP website says it has 512 meg of dedicated ram. Those of you that have it does it take away 256 megs of system ram? I have been told that a guy has ran a test with only a 256meg chip in and the video card went down to 256 instead of 512. So does this actually have true dedicated 512 megs of video ram or is it shared. Ill have to admit if it doesnt have dedicated ill be more than upset with HP. Thanks in advance

The 7600 series does NOT use Turbocache. Whatever memory it has is 100% dedicated and separate from the system RAM. So yes, the 512MB 7600 has 512MB onboard.
-
The reason I ask is this guy has said he talked to an HP tech that said it was shared and an nvidia rep that told him they made no 7600go cards with 512 megs of ram. I do not know what turbocache is so that kind of lost me. I asked here because I know there are peopel that own it and look at it physically. I mean I know that Ill eventually have mine and will be able to look for myself but its just aggitating how this guy is saying he spoke with hp and nvidia and they are saying shared even though HPs website says dedicated.

So anyone look at their systems between the card and the system ram and know for sure that it is dedicated and not shared?

Hope this helps,

Seems like that would solve it wouldnt it. Wonder if I should link that other thread here so folks can see lol. The guy says he just happens to have a buddy who recently got his and they put only 256megs of ram in it and it only showed a 256meg vid card after that. But with 2gigs of ram it showed a 512. Funny isnt it. I cant wait to get mine so I can post back under that other thread lol.

Zany did you look at system properties under my computer too?
-

no just right click on my computer and go to properties. it list the CPU info as well as system ram
-
Ahhh, that.
Says:
HP
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU
T7200 @ 2.00GHz
2.00 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
The task manager says this for Total Physical Memory:2095084 (k) -
Then I would have to say that the other guy has to be completely wrong. I dont know of a computer system yet that shares its system ram with the video card that does not show up under the properties of the computer.
-
Ya know I almost forgot. That guy is also trying to say that the DV8000 and the DV9000 have the same mother boards. Someone correct me if I am wrong but isnt that impossible considering the DV8000 has ports the DV9 does not and vise versa. Also ports on the DV9 and the DV8 are in completely different spots. Which if memory seves on basic electronic design means that the ports are soddered in where they sit meaning the printed wire board has to be different.

is turbocache what allows a vid card to share ram with the system
-
Is it possible that it's the other way around? In other words, if the video card doesn't need it, it gives half of its memory for system use, and reclaims it if needed?
-
Not that I am aware of.
