My dv9000t preloaded with vista is giving me some odd readings and am wondering if anyone else who recently received this model from HP is getting the same readings.
1. Total RAM available is displaying 2046mb instead of 2048mb in system view.
2. Total graphics memory is displaying 527mb, 256mb dedicated and 271 shared system memory. I purchased video with 256mb option.
3. Screeen refresh rate is 59 Hertz instead of the typical 60 Hertz on previous notebooks.
4. My wireless signal never gets better than 3 out of 5 bars, or 60% strength, even when the notebook is brought right in front of the router.
I previously returned a dv9000t with winXP MC edition to get this one with vista installed, and before returning it, I tried out a retail vista version. Readings from that returned notebook gave me correct readings with the exception of #2 above.
Anyone else getting these readings?

#2 is normal and a built-in feature of Vista. I wouldn't worry about any of the other ones except for #4. Which wireless option did you get with your notebook, and have you tried updating/reinstalling the drivers?
-
I'm happy with #2. Any reason why I shouldn't worry about others?
I got the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth, and latest driver is installed. -

The temp monitoring portion of the control panel hasnt been put back in yet. You need to download a third party program like Everest to see its temp.
I have never figured out why Windows reports weird ram for the vid card. I have the 512meg version in my system and it does the same thing. I know its not actually shared being I have installed only a 256meg chip before and its still 512.
I have the same reading with the wireless. Im not sure as to why it does this but it only started after I installed Vista. I assume it reads it differently that before as I am sure my signal didnt drop.
You can change the refresh back to 60hz no problem. It just happen to set that way for whatever reason and can be easily changed if it bothers you. -
I only have the 59 Hertz option and can't change to anything else.
As for wireless, I'm topping out at around 850 KB no matter how many things I download from one site or different sites at once. All are sharing this amount of bandwidth.
Also, since I'm showing shared video memory, I'm now wondering if the shared memory actually kicks in or is just a phantom reading from Vista. -
I have a dv9235nr, and i have the same problems.
Mine also tells me I have 2046MB ram instead of 2048.
Mine also says I have 527MB video memory, when I have a 256MB vid.card.
Not sure about the refresh rate.
And my wireless signal.... It's almost always at 60%, while I'm in the same room as the router. It makes no sense, because, seriously... If i'm in the same room, within spittin' distance of the router, there's really no reason for the signal strength to not be 100%, or at least in the 90's. This really does bug me. However, I have not noticed any significant change in download speed as compared to my desktop pc which is connected to the router via usb
I'm not sure how to feel now that I know other people have low wifi signal. I was starting to wonder if i should call tech support or see if i could get it worked on and hopefully fixed. But now I know everybody has this problem... wow. And I seriously hope nVidia fixes our video cards soon. I really need to adjust my gamma settings! -

Maybe there are better routers that gives stronger signals now. And thats what Vista expects. Perhaps the old "strong signal" standard is now considered mediocre by Vista's standard. Just a thought.

I have a really crappy wireless network. I use ICS via an Adhoc network and a usb wireless adaptpr for the PC connected to the net. im not more than 5 metres away and the signal is low but i still can connect fine and use the net while in Vista.
