    I added two 1gb Kbyte DDR2 PC5300 ram chips to my Pavillion DV9310. Everything was great for awhile and then it would crash. Got the blue screen then it rebooted. :mad:

    Didn't seem to matter what I was doing at the time. Just listening to MP3's and it would belly up. I switched back to the original Hynix and everything appears to be just fine.

    I know it's not the HP "preferred" ram but it was on sale so I thought I'd take a chance. Obviously that didn't pan out.

    Any thoughts or suggestions? TIA.

    Yes run memtest on each RAM stick seperately to see whether one or both of the modules is faulty.

    Going by the best-buy price... kbyte seems a bit expensive.

    BB = 1GB Kbyte DDR2 PC5300 $149.99
    Crucial = 2GB DDR2 PC5300 $131.99 (Yes 2GB not just 1GB)

    edit: might as well use brainstretch's link

    Plus you could make sure that there isn't any dust/grime covering the edge connectors.

    Where can I download memtest? A link would be appreciated.

    Also, the Kbyte was on sale at Staples for $80 for the 1gb stick so I bought two. I didn't think that was too bad of a deal although I don't know anything about their quality compared to all the others.

    It can be downloaded from here...
    http://www.memtest.org/

    You can either download the image(zip) and burn it to a Cd and booth from the CD or download the zip image for booting from a USB memory stick if your system is capable of booting form the USB.

    Ah...thanx for the link. I'm going to try it anyway. Should be handy to keep around for testing other machines. BTW. I took the first two chips back and exchanged them. Been on for over an hour now and no crashes while surfing and listening to MP3's at the same time. :)
