I've mentioned here a couple of times about the poor recorded quality/sound difficulty through the built-in mics I have had with my 9500. Calling HP was no help, as they indicated that I would probably simply have to return the unit for repair.

Today I stumbled, quite by accident, upon the apparent solution.

Buried in the SPEAKER settings are "enhancements". I found that one of the enhancements is labeled "Voice Cancelation" for Karaoke use. It was check marked. Mind you, I've never been to this part of the settings, and the computer came from HP, new with this setting enabled!

Once I disabled all the enhancements, the unit now plays recorded voices with completely acceptable voice clarity and volume.

I hope this helps anyone else who may have been saddled with this "default".

I have bought 2 9542ev (from different suppliers) for me and my sister.

Both suffer with really low sound recording of built-in microphones.
Even with +40db gain they are really unusable for Skype or Messenger.
Even Realtek's Microphone calibration cannot complete due to mic low level.
    Voice cancellation is unchecked.
Tried all settings in-out (noise supression, acoustic echo cancellation, beam forming) with no acceptable results.

Sound becomes better with external microphone plugged in but again not acceptable.

    Has anyone the same problem?
